The Position

Accounting Assistants perform clerical accounting work in the maintenance of accounts and accounting records for State agencies.

PER EXECUTIVE ORDER 2024-06, ALL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN WAIVED FOR THIS POSITION UNTIL DECEMBER 31ST, 2024. Please refer to the link for more information: https://gov.nv.gov/Newsroom/ExecOrders/Executive-Orders/ Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.

The Accounting Assistant III supervises and participates in the performance of clerical accounting functions in the maintenance of various accounts and records. The individual will review accounting system reports for accuracy and make corrections; and prepare various internal reports. These incumbents rely on a variety of accounting processes, rules, regulations and controls to manage the various accounts. Incumbents gather and extract data from a variety of internal/external sources; resolve conflicting financial and statistical data; prepare detailed supporting documentation for grants and related reports; reconcile complex bank statements; maintain records and balances for general ledger categories; process accounts payable/receivable documents; and assign accounting codes in accordance with complex rules, regulations, contracts and grant requirements. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of progressively responsible clerical accounting experience which included duties such as responsibility for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and/or other accounting data; setting up computer spreadsheets to record, track, organize and report data; researching and interpreting financial data to prepare reports and respond to budget and accounts related inquiries; and reconciling accounts; OR one year of experience as an Accounting Assistant II in Nevada State service which included clerical accounting duties as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.

Additional Position Criteria

This recruitment is only open to current classified employees in state service with at least six months of continuous, full-time equivalent service.
