Zehner Bros Farms Farmworkers and Laborers, Crop, Nursery in Nescopeck, Pennsylvania
16 Full Time Seasonal H-2A Jobs available 08/24/23 - 10/31/23.
Workers will perform various duties all associated with planting, cultivation and harvesting crops named in this order. Workers will assist in irrigation activities. Workers will also clean, grade, sort pack and load harvested crops.
Pumpkins: At harvest, workers will be expected to select the pumpkins based on the standard disclosed to the worker by the supervisor. Workers will walk along rows and cut melons according to size, color, shape, and degree of maturity using a knife. May carry to trailer or windrow for loading at a later time. Also, the workers will be expected to grade, sort, and place in shipping containers. After harvest is completed, workers will be required to remove mature pumpkin vines from the plastic as well as preparing the plastic for the next planting cycle, if applicable. May also be required to remove old or damaged plastic and irrigation drip tape along with any other trash, rocks, or debris from the planting areas.
Sweet Corn: At harvest, workers will be expected to select and pick sweet corn based on the standard disclosed to the worker by the supervisor.
Tractor/Trucks Operation During Field Operations: Worker may operate tractors, forklift, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery for harvest and packing. Worker may operate equipment used in agricultural production, such as tractors and implements. Worker may manipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust mechanisms on machinery. Worker may attach farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers, and harvesters to tractors, using bolts and hand tools. Worker may load containers and products using forklifts. Worker may operate grading and digging equipment. Worker may perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting repair on equipment. Workers with proper licenses will use company vehicles to transport employers crops, tools and fellow workers. Farm, Field, and Shed Sanitation: All workers will be responsible for picking up trash, cleaning bathrooms, sweeping floors and other farm and shed sanitation duties. The farm owner/supervisor or a designated employee will provide specific instructions and close supervision. Workers will be expected to perform their duties in a timely and proficient manner and will have close supervision to insure adherence to instruction. Work will be closely monitored and reviewed for quality.
Work may be performed during light rain and in high humidity and in temperatures ranging from 110 degrees to 20 degrees F. Workers will perform the majority of tasks standing in the upright position and can expect to stand on their feet for extended periods of time. Some tasks, however, require workers to perform activities on their feet in stooped or crouched position for long periods of time. Workers will frequently lift weights of 80 lbs. during the day. Workers will supply their own work clothes.
