Job Summary: Organizes and conducts an Occupational Therapy program upon referral from a physician to facilitate rehabilitation of the physically handicapped or injured person with a focus on Upper Extremity/Hand. Educates patients, families, students and the community in the Occupational Therapy practice. Participates as a team member in the day to day operations of the department.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Evaluates patients, establishes goals and implements treatment program per department's procedures and standards of care in a supportive and caring environment.

  2. Appropriately assesses and manages pain in accordance with the established guidelines.

  3. Demonstrates the knowledge/skill necessary to provide care appropriate ranging in age from infant to elder

  4. Instructs patients and families in Occupational therapy procedures as part of a patient's on going program as needed.

  5. Adequately plans for patient's discharge involving other pertinent team members, when appropriate.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy required.

  2. License Occupational Therapist License required.

  3. 0-1 years related work experience required in Occupational Therapy, with specialization in Hand Therapy for at least one year.

  4. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Certification in Hand Therapy

  2. Problem Solving: Ability to address problems that are varied, requiring analysis or interpretation of the situation using direct observation, knowledge and skills based on general precedents.

  3. Independence of Action: Ability to follow precedents and procedures. May set priorities and organize work within general guidelines. Seeks assistance when confronted with difficult and/or unpredictable situations. Work progress is monitored by supervisor/manager.

  4. Written Communications: Ability to summarize and communicate in English moderately complex information in varied written formats to internal and external customers.

  5. Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.

  6. Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.

  7. Team Work: Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.

  8. Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Age based Competencies:

Employees in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Neonatal:Birth to 6 months, Youth: 6 months to 16 years, Young adult: 16-30 years, Middle Age: 30 - 60 years, Elderly: 60 -.

Physical Nature of the Job:

Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force frequently. Work is physically demanding and requires extended periods of standing and/or moving.
