Position Summary/Description:

Flexible work arrangements, including virtual/hybrid work locations, are an integral part of the School of Medicine’s Working Forward initiative. As such, this position’s work location is designated as hybrid. Please note that the designated work location is subject to change based on the unit’s business needs.

The Research Project Manager of Research Recruitment & Retention ( RRRP ) will provide project management, subject matter expertise, and real-world data support for the NC TraCS Research Recruitment & Retention Program and its collaborators. Recruitment and retention continue to be among the greatest barriers to successful trial completion, with significant financial and ethical impacts. The Program tailors guidance to research projects from a wide variety of therapeutic areas and target populations, this position will utilize an extensive knowledge of research design, the practicalities of inclusive research implementation, behavioral economics, strategy adaptation, analysis of market research trends, mitigation of barriers, lay language communication and cohort characterization.

Specifically, the Research Project Manager will be responsible for coordination, oversight, and consultative support of requests from research faculty and staff seeking to create or modify their strategies for research recruitment, enrollment and retention of participants. In addition, the Project Manager will

1) Continue the development of a research recruitment and retention resource hub;

2) Plan, design and collaborate with other research projects to determine evidence-based, successful research recruitment strategies ;

3) Create process improvement metrics and efficiencies internally to ensure comprehensive and timely support and

4) Create trainings for research faculty and staff to promote a culture of evidence-based, inclusive recruitment and retention practices across research enterprise.

The Research Project Manager will report to the Research Program Manager but is expected to manage day-to-day operations of projects under their purview with considerable independence, especially in the areas of problem-solving, evaluation, and milestone management. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, detail oriented, creative, and able to produce clear, professional content for simultaneous projects with demanding deadlines.

Education and Experience:

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Prior experience in clinical research, particularly related to recruitment of research participants into clinical research studies.

  • REDCap (or equivalent database), experience with EPIC , MyChart, and/or Oncore.

  • Demonstrated comfort and success with development of participant screening, recruitment and follow-up (retention) protocols, documents and strategies.

  • High level of motivation and vision in communicating with diverse audiences with lay language.

  • High level of comfort with speaking to various stakeholder types including but not limited to leadership, clinicians and patients.

  • Passion for addressing the value of research, creative communication, and development of tailored, participant-centered messaging and outreach.

  • Interest in designing and conducting research and the dissemination of results through manuscript writing is preferred.

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience managing research projects, including data and progress tracking and management of teams composed of individuals with different professional expertise and priorities.
