Position Summary/Description:

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering is seeking a Research Project Manager who will oversee day-to-day research operations by managing activities associated with multiple concurrent research projects of the Institute for Environmental Health Solutions ( IEHS ), UNC Superfund Research Program ( UNC - SRP ), and activities relevant to IEHS and UNC - SRP across the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering. This includes directly overseeing and contributing to project design, administration, budget, personnel (current and future employees), grant activities (e.g. scientific planning and writing), scientific manuscripts, state-of-the-art assays for environmental health science, teaching, and communication.

The IEHS seeks to identify the interactions between various disease states and the environment with a current focus on cancer, preterm birth, and cardio-metabolic disease. We also investigate environmental health solutions for reducing the detrimental health effects of environmental exposures in the community setting. We aim to improve public health by conducting integrative research across areas such as environmental sciences, epidemiology, biology, and laboratory research.

Funded by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, UNC - SRP aims to deepen our understanding of the human health risks associated with exposure to inorganic arsenic, which is the top-priority contaminant regulated under the Superfund program. To achieve this goal, we bring together a diverse group of inter-disciplinary experts including biomedical researchers, engineers, chemists, environmental scientists, data scientists, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate trainees.

Education and Experience:

Candidates should have the following:

Experience coordinating/managing multiple research projects, both of national and international scope.

Strong interpersonal, leadership and verbal/written communication skills.

Knowledge/experience with human subjects ethics, data-use agreements and Institutional Review Boards.

Experience in scientific networking and collaborations.

Ability to foster research partnerships among diverse areas of scientific expertise.

Experience in collaborating with private research institutes and federal/international agencies.

Experience in grant writing and submission.

Experience in manuscript writing including as first author.

Experience in presenting research including oral and poster presentations.

Essential Skills:

A master’s degree is required, preferably in environmental sciences.

Supervisory experience of graduate students, post-docs and research staff is required.
