U.S. Pacific Fleet, Commander in Chief SUPERVISORY SAFETY & OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in Naval Station Complex, California

Summary You will serve as a Supervisory Safety and Occupational Health Specialist in the Safety & Occupational Health Division; Environmental Safety & Health Department of SOUTHWEST REGIONAL MAINTENANCE CENTER. Responsibilities You will serve as the Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) Branch Supervisor at SWRMC, responsible for administering a safety and occupational health program for oversight of assigned SWRMC workplaces. You will ensure strict compliance with Federal Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) on contractors working for SWRMC to ensure a safe and healthy environment. You will organize, administer, coordinate, evaluate, and implement a comprehensive Navy's Safety and Occupational Health Program at SWRMC. You will plan, organize, and administer a scheduled series of comprehensive inspections of numerous shipboard or shop locations of structural repairs, welding, painting, electrical repairs and metal shop fabrication. You will negotiate with regulatory agencies, contractors, and Navy commands in the establishment of achievable and timely SOH compliance dates. You will review SWRMC advance planning work specifications to ensure that necessary provisions to meet applicable or potential OSHA and Environmental standards are included. You will identify, analyze, and evaluate a variety of hazards for military, civilian and contractor occupations, many involving complex operations, diverse environmental conditions and human-machine relations. You will apply methods, techniques, and abatements to control and eliminate unsafe acts or conditions that arise from the introduction of new equipment and the construction or modification of ships’ structures. You will plan and conduct safety education activities, including the hazards of electrical work, promotes safety campaign materials, and ensure the area of responsibility safety committees are maintained in accordance with respective instructions. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Inspecting ship modernization or repair operations to identify or eliminate hazardous conditions by recommending alternative course of actions to meet military requirements for a ship maintenance organization.
