Military Sealift Command FINANCIAL TECHNICIAN in Naval Base, Virginia

Summary You will serve as a FINANCIAL TECHNICIAN in the COMPTROLLER DEPT (N8),COMPLIANCE & TRAVEL (N842), ORDER WRITING (N8422), DISBURSING TRAVEL & PAYROLL DIVISION (N84) of MILITARY SEALIFT COMMAND. Responsibilities You will examine, verify, maintain, and reconcile accounts and accounting data. You will prepare and analyze reports. You will utilize office automation to digitally create, collect, store, manipulate, and relay information. You will identify travel restrictions, required travel training, area clearances, passports and visas, and overseas travel arrangements. You will utilize the Defense Travel System and must be a subject matter expert in the Joint Travel Regulations (JTR) with experience in both Travel Order Writing and Travel Order Liquidation. You will answer questions and provide advice to employees, supervisors, staff in other financial management series and personnel specialists on pay related rules, regulations, and procedures. You will perform general office duties such as electronic filing, scanning, copying, ordering supplies, etc. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-05 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector such as: Experience entering and retrieving financial data from spreadsheets such as Excel. Experience making travel arrangements and identifying travel restrictions. Experience performing general office duties such as electronic filing, scanning, copying, ordering supplies, etc. Experience using accounting, budgeting, and financial management methods, practices and procedures to examine accounting data. Experience using Microsoft Suite Word and Excel to create, collect, store, manipulate and relay accounting/financial information. Experience verifying arithmetical computations and accounting data to ensure accuracy. To qualify based on education for the GS-05 grade level you must have a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of specialized experience and only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. Additional Information Grade progression is GS-05, GS-06, with the Full Performance Level at GS-07 This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
