Commander, Navy Installations FIREFIGHTER (BLS/HAZMAT TECHNICIAN) in Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia
Summary You will serve as a FIREFIGHTER (BLS/HAZMAT) in the FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES of NAS OCEANA. Responsibilities You will administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automatic external defibrillation (AED) for a patient. You will operate firefighting equipment (e.g., pumps, foam generators, boom, ground sweep nozzles) to control or eliminate fires. You will establish on-scene control procedures (e.g., zone control, decontamination) in a hazardous material incident. You will position firefighting vehicles in consideration of external factors (e.g., wind direction, sources of water, hazards from falling structures, location of armament on aircraft). Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department/brigade; 2) Performing rescue operations; 3) Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards; 4) Controlling hazardous materials incidents; 5) Driving and operating firefighting vehicles; and 6) Performing non-invasive emergency medical procedures. In addition, this position requires possession of the following certifications: 1) Firefighter I & II; 2) Hazmat Awareness; 3) Hazmat Operations; 4) Driver Operator Pumper; 5) Driver Operator ARFF; 6)Driver Operator Aerial; 7) Airport Firefighter; and 8) National Registry EMT; These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program. You will be required to report for duty during natural disasters and other emergency situations as directed by the Fire Chief.
