The Phlebotomist II will perform a variety of tasks related to blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging, and data recording. The individual in this role will be responsible for collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, explaining the venipuncture process to patients, and demonstrating techniques using both straight and butterfly needles.
Responsibilities
Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.
Collect and store specimens following established protocols.
Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection procedures to patients.
Demonstrate venipuncture techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
Fully understand and execute all physician orders.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
Ensure 100% accuracy by checking all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.
Package specimens for transport.
Store specimen samples at the required temperature and in appropriate containers, accurately labeling them and following specific protocols.
Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
2-4 years of experience in phlebotomy, including at least 1 year in a hospital setting
Pediatrics or geriatrics experience preferred
Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment
Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
High School Diploma or GED
Work Environment
This position will involve working at multiple locations, including a larger Patient Service Center (PSC) and smaller doctor’s offices (IOP). There will be a 10% travel requirement between locations in Nashville and Murfreesboro, with schedules made a month in advance. The work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The phlebotomist will perform 25-30 draws daily depending on the location. The role involves standing for most of the day, other than when checking patients in and during breaks. The work environment includes both team settings at larger PSC locations and potentially working alone or with one other person at smaller IOP locations. Training will be provided at the PSC location in Nashville or at the New Salem location if closer to Murfreesboro.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00
