Position Description

This is a full time, Non-Civil Service position with Metro Action Commission. The Head Start Teacher 2, Head Start Teacher 1, and Early Head Start Teacher is under the direct supervision of the Head Start Center Manager and the general supervision of Head Start Assistant Center Manager.

Head Start Teacher 2 - $52,000.00

Head Start Teacher 1 - $50,000.00

Early Head Start Teacher (Infant/Toddler Teacher) - $45,000.00

*Extensive Background Checks and random drug tests are performed on applicants for this position with MAC.

Typical Duties

  • Help children develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally

  • Plan, document, and implement daily lesson plans and special activities

  • Attend staff meetings, training and other related meetings as requested

  • Responsible for all consultation(s) with parents

  • Maintain current records, perform tasks associated with the education component, and assure confidentiality

  • Maintain proper supervision of children at all times indoors and outdoors

  • Document and implement integration of component events in the classroom (i.e., handwashing, toileting, tooth brushing, preparing children for health services and community visits)

  • Report any children concerns to the (assigned) Parent, Family, Community,and Engagement Advocate

  • Report suspected child abuse or neglect to the immediate supervisor

  • Insure daily implementation of the family style food service

  • Support and assist volunteers serving in the education program

  • Assume other task-related duties as requested

Minimum Qualifications

HS Teacher 2 - Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.

HS Teacher 1 - Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or Equivalent.

EHS Teacher - Infant/ Toddler Child Development Associates (CDA) Credential or equivalent coursework and has been trained in early childhood development.

Valid Driver License.

Official College Transcripts - If you wish to qualify, we need a copy of your official college transcript sent from the university or college.

Please Note: Due to Federal regulations there are no exceptions to the Degree requirement

Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Previous work experience with young children

  • Certification in Early Childhood Education
