Saint-Gobain Mechanical Engineer in NASHVILLE, Arkansas

The Mechanical Engineer I will be responsible for investigating and problem solving plant reliability issues.- This position will also support maintenance teams in the rationalization, planning and scheduling of maintenance activities to drive improved sustainable plant reliability in a manner consistent with CertainTeed Gypsum’s Vision, Mission, Values and Objectives (VMVO).

- Responsibilities:

  • Reports directly to the Performance Manager

  • Plan, schedule, & direct area engineering functions.

  • Participate in decisions pertaining to equipment requirements for line uptime.

  • Develop capital cost, design, and installation plans for new equipment. Recommend equipment replacement to improve operations & reduce costs.

  • Secure required permits from governmental agencies for new equipment installations.

  • Implementation of approved capital programs within budget and schedule plans.

  • Participation on Equipment Safety Inspections and in the company SMAT program.

  • Supports maintenance & plant operations as needed.

  • Responsible for administration of plant projects, AR and GACT.

  • Assist in the Corporate Energy Program.

  • Coordination of utility projects.

  • Manages local applications for tax exemption certificates.

  • Maintains, develops, collects, and enters data in computer system.

  • Support continuous improvement projects and teams to drive rapid results. Interact with site Senior Management to drive improvements.

  • Record, report and post targeted areas of improvement opportunities using visual management board.

  • Participate in Incident & Near Miss Investigations to determine root cause and corrective actions.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering or similar discipline; or equivalent training and experience to have comprehensive knowledge of the practices, procedures and regulations associated with fundamental mechanical engineering principles may be substituted for a degree.

  • Experience with the sciences of heat transfer and flow of solids, liquids and powder.

  • Excellent problem solving capabilities and the ability to work independently on assigned tasks.

  • Must be able to design experiments and provide statistical analysis of those trials as to effectiveness.

  • Flexible and open-minded with good written and oral communication.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Knowledge of, or ability to understand operational excellence principles and tools, such as 5S, SMED, Kaizen, Six Sigma green belt, and TPM.

  • Strong computer skills, excellent time management, analytical, flexible in adapting to changing situations and business conditions.

  • CAD or AutoCAD skills and or working knowledge of process engineering software.

  • Ability to diagnose and prioritize opportunities in areas of savings, throughput improvement, and yield improvement.
