Job Title Student Assistant - Charter School Food Service

General Description

This is a student position responsible for assisting in the SFA Charter School food service program. The position will work in the school kitchen and help prepare food for the Charter School and Early Childhood Lab ( ECHL ) students. Works under moderate supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Job Duties

  1. Provides assistance to the Charter School kitchen staff by helping with routine food service duties.

  2. Assists in washing dishes used during food preparation.

  3. Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  1. Knowledge of, or ability to learn, general food preparation.

  2. Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.

  3. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

  4. Ability to understand and follow instructions.

  5. Physical condition adequate to permit full performance of duties.

    Required Qualifications

The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.

No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous food preparation experience is preferred.

Physical Demands

Ability to stand for the majority of the work shift.

Special Conditions for Eligibility

A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.

Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
