Intermountain Health Dialysis Technician in Murray, Utah

Job Description:

The Dialysis Technician performs tasks and provides patient care as delegated by a Registered Nurse consistent with practice standards. The Dialysis Technician provides competent dialysis treatment consistent with treatment prescription and observes the patient's physiologic response to treatment and reports variation to the charge RN as indicated.

Shifts and Scheduling

Day and evening shifts - see details below:

  • The center is open Monday - Saturday. The selected candidate needs to available to work Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 4:45 a.m. - 10:30 p.m., and Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 4:45 a.m. - 6 p.m. It's required to be available to work at least 5 out of these 6 days during the week.

  • The selected candidate is required to work 3x12 hour shifts/week. 1-2 on call shifts a month, and 1-2 four float shift a month.

  • No nights or Sunday shifts.

  • The selected candidate is required to work 2 Saturdays a month.

Posting Specifics

  • Entry Rate: $18.66/hour + depending on experience (Uncertified) $19.97/hour + depending on experience (Certified).

Candidates who are certified or uncertified in Dialysis will be considered for the opening.

Essential Functions

  • Provides dialysis care in accordance to established policies, procedures and guidelines which includes; setting up the dialysis machine, initiating, monitoring, and terminating dialysis therapy in accordance with the provider order.

  • Recognizes problems, demonstrates appropriate immediate action and notifies responsible parties promptly.

  • Maintains a safe environment for patients and caregivers by adhering to all established Intermountain policies, procedures and guidelines.

  • Documents appropriately in the electronic health record.

  • Participates in continuous improvement activities and programs.

Qualifications - Required (Uncertified)

  • Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers prior to start date.

  • Caregivers in this role must obtain their Certified Chronic Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) Certification within 18 months of hire or they must vacate the role.

Qualifications - Required (Certified)

  • Current Certified Chronic Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT)) Certification. Caregivers must maintain an active Certified Chronic Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) Certification to remain in this role.

  • Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers prior to start date.

Qualifications – Preferred

  • Dialysis experience

  • Experience working in a regulated healthcare environment

  • Phlebotomy experience

Physical Requirements:

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to evaluate and interpret color coded test results on test strips.

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, identify patient needs, operate monitors and equipment.

  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.).

  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
