Murray State University HVAC Technician II in Murray, Kentucky

Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Operation and Maintenance of air conditioning and heating systems. Proper operation and maintenance of air conditioning refrigeration and heating equipment to prevent interruption in service and damage to equipment. Thorough knowledge and practice of safe working practices, and compliance with federal EPA standards. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.

Minimum Experience and Skill Requirements:

  • Three years experience in air conditioning repair and installation which can be acquired from another institution or commercial service companies.

  • Vocational training may be exchanged for a portion of the experience at the rate of one-half time per year.

  • Must be able to concentrate amidst distraction from noise and work rapidly for short periods.

  • Performs general maintenance functions as assigned.

  • Possess a Kentucky HVAC Journeyman License or possess the qualifications and ability to obtain License (Level of license dependent upon departmental need).

  • Possess and EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification.

  • Refrigeration, air conditioning and heating training through vocational school, apprentice program, or on-the-job training.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet the requirements to operate a university vehicle.

  • May oversee student workers, temporary employees, or regular employees as needed in the absence of a supervisor.

Hourly Rate: $13.80 (Additional pay dependent upon qualifications)

Minimum Salary: $13.80

Work Hours:

  • Eight hours per day, five days per week. Occasional overtime. Emergency callback after normal hours and on weekends.

  • This position will be required to work to provide critical service during University holidays, closures, and other emergencies, as needed. Critical services refer to the units that ensure the continuation of key operations and services that directly relate to the security, safety, and/or physical operation of the University (including services to students). Critical services employees will be required to report to work unless their supervisor advises otherwise.
