Position Summary

Global Investment Manager Analysis (GIMA), a unit within Investment Solutions (IS), provides comprehensive investment manager due diligence on a wide range of investment strategies, including separately managed accounts, mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, and private vehicles in the equity, fixed income, and alternative investments spaces. The GIMA team engages with a broad array of 3rd party investment managers to identify high quality strategies for portfolios.

The investment analyst will provide support to the team’s onshore Analysts, focused on alternative investment strategies across hedge funds, private equity, real assets and private credit. The investment analyst will primarily be responsible for supporting the ongoing investment due diligence and monitoring for various products.

Core Functions

·Support and assist the due diligence process, which typically involves documentation review and conference calls with investment managers.

·Participate in alternative investment manager meetings on a regular basis, taking meeting notes and filing to database.

·Prepare quarterly and annual notes/reviews on alternative investment strategies as part of the group’s policies and procedures.

·Prepare peer analyses to compare various alternative strategies and managers.

·Assess manager’s historical return profile based on their performance history and attribution.

·Collect, analyze, and save down fund materials (quarterly DDQs, quarterly reports, letters, exposure reports, attribution, etc.) to shared drive & database.

·Conduct quarterly liquid risk analysis to determine Morgan Stanley’s exposure to alternative investment products.

·Prepare written reports and commentaries on various managers.

Ongoing Activities Include:

·Identify upgrade/downgrade candidates.

·Conduct ad-hoc projects as needed

·Interact with onshore GIMA team members.

·Support a team atmosphere including idea sharing, learning, and back-up.

·Remain abreast of industry trends, regulatory matters, and market events impacting funds, managers, clients, and the industry.

Experience/Skills/Abilities

·Looking for a candidate that has knowledge of alternative strategies such as hedge funds, private equity, private credit as well as real assets, and the desire to expand their skillset across investment strategies and products.

·2-6 years of job experience in the financial markets; knowledge of various alternative investment strategies and experience in investment due diligence is preferred.

·Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, including experience drafting internal memorandum and detailed reports.

·Strong analytical and quantitative skills.

·Detail-oriented with ability to multi-task and handle multiple priorities.

·Ability to summarize large quantities of information and to work under pressure without sacrificing accuracy.

·Must be able to efficiently interface with onshore GIMA Analysts.

·A willingness to learn and to work within a close-knit team.

·Undergraduate degree required.

·MBA, CFA (at least level 1), and/or CAIA not required but viewed favorably.
