Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries.

Azure Data continues to be an amazing business, experiencing dramatic growth across our on-premise and cloud usage. Within Azure Data, the SQL Tools team is a critical part of this success. We own the user interface that millions of database developers and administrators use every day to work with data across the Azure Data stack.

The SQL Tools team is hiring a Software Engineer 2 to work on features and improvements in SQL’s most widely used tool, SQL Server Management Studio. Your role will include designing and implementing feature enhancements, collaborating with teammates on planning for the product development, as well as conducting code reviews to help engineers on the team be successful and grow their skills.

These established tools provide the right leader the potential to impact millions of users that build and manage enterprise scale data applications and services. Work on the team includes addressing customer needs and developing new innovations that align with improvements in SQL Server on-premises and in Azure. The diverse capabilities of SQL Server and Azure Data services provides members on the tooling team a wide array of technologies to work with. While most engineering is done in C# there are opportunities to work on other languages and platforms as well.

Responsibilities

  • ​​Design and implement capabilities that will address the key needs of customers and align with improvements in SQL Server on-premises and in Azure

  • Contribute to technical direction and strategic planning for product development, feature enhancement, and innovation in alignment with the business objectives

  • Conduct code reviews and help shape and steer the team coding guidelines​

Qualifications

Required /Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Pythono OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements

The ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • Reliable problem-solving skills and proven experience with C#, .Net and Windows applications.

  • Demonstrated experience contributing to delivery of software projects with 3 to 5 engineers

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
