Position Summary

As an Electrical Technician, you will play a vital role in our commitment to providing industry leading high-quality products. Under minimal supervision, investigates, diagnoses, and repairs electrical conflicts and issues involving our truck mounted equipment and the interface with OEM chassis. Inspect, pre-program, and test chassis before the start of production to avoid delays.

Essential Functions of the Job

  • Conduct diagnostic procedures to accurately identify and implement appropriate solutions.

  • Complete necessary repairs and conduct validation tests to ensure the quality and effectiveness of the work.

  • Create and maintain a set of test harnesses and test control boxes for inspection and diagnostic purposes.

  • Inspect chassis electrical system and components prior to production.

  • Work with chassis dealers and manufacturers to identify problem resolutions.

  • Record engine and transmission program parameters in the designated storage folders.

  • Be the primary production contact to engineering for all SP product lines for electrical and wiring problems.

  • Work with the electrical engineering team as needed for advanced problem solving.

  • Provide feedback to supervisor and electrical engineering team regarding assembly process and design documentation changes that are needed.

  • Work with materials team to identify NCM issues with harnesses and electrical components.

  • Rework / repair NCM harnesses as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and, Abilities (KSA's)

  • Expertise in diagnosing and resolving electrical and computer-related issues on vehicles.

  • Knowledge of CANbus J1939 or similar vehicle electrical network.

  • Above average mechanical and superior electrical aptitude.

  • Ability to use a computer to run engine & transmission diagnostic software.

  • Ability to use a multimeter to measure current, voltage, and resistance and to diagnose open circuits and shorts.

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical data, drawings, and schematics.

  • Hands-on attitude and ability.

  • The ability to self-motivate to meet task deadlines.

  • Ability to work on, under, and in vehicles.

  • Adheres to company safety expectations and PPE use.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Highly organized.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Technical training and certification is preferred.

  • Minimum five years of experience preferred.

  • Possession of a valid driver's license.

  • Truck mounted body builder experience is preferred.

  • Forklift and overhead crane experience is a plus.

Working Conditions

  • Perform work in a non-climate-controlled metal manufacturing production environment

  • Torque a bolt to 40 ft/lbs

  • Able to work with their arms elevated for periods up to 5 minutes at a time

  • Requires various visual processing (i.e., near, far, depth, color)

  • Must be able to work in an environment with noise at 75-decibels (25-decibel using earplugs)

  • Must be able to bend, stoop and crouch or kneel for up to 1 hour or be on their feet for 90% of their shift and walk up to 75% on concrete

  • Must be able to climb 13ft by way of 12-inch rung ladders

  • Must be able to lift, push and/or pull up to 40lbs and carry that weight 5ft

  • Infrequent overnight travel may be required to support products in the field.
