BWXT is currently seeking a Production Tech to join our growing team in Mount Vernon, Indiana!
What we do
Situated on a 100-acre site, our facility has 600,000 square feet of shop area and a 1,000-ton lift capacity from the shop to the river. The Mount Vernon facility is equipped with large CNC machine tools along with sophisticated welding and heat-treating equipment to produce components for naval nuclear reactors, which are used in submarines and aircraft carriers.
What you'll do
Individuals hired to fill this role will support our fabrication shop as part of our Operations Department by performing a variety of mechanical tasks, including but not limited to the following:
Follows procedures, demonstrates a questioning attitude, maintains a quality driven perspective and is mindful of sensitive information.
Read/interpret engineering drawings, sketches, blue prints.
Read/interpret detailed engineering instructions.
Assemble mechanical products in accordance with detailed engineering drawings/instructions.
Assemble various mechanisms and/or sub-assembly components.
Clean the interior and exterior of products using strict and detailed guidelines.
Package products for shipment using strict and detailed guidelines.
Perform dimensional measurements for fitment verifications.
Perform mechanical tasks/operate mechanical assemblies associated with critical tolerance components.
Perform cutting/grinding operations as needed.
Operate small to medium size fork lifts.
Operate boom lift and scissor lift equipment and perform work at heights.
Obtain crane qualifications to perform rigging/lifting of components.
Verify identity and physical characteristics of materials.
Maintain necessary written records.
Please note: Individuals hired for this position will work twelve (12) hour shifts (either 4AM to 4PM or 4PM to 4AM). This position would require training on day or night shift (Monday through Thursday) until qualified (approx. 6 months) but would then transition to a weekend night shift which is a Friday through Sunday shift. Some additional overtime may be required for critical jobs. Once qualified, your work schedule will be 4pm to 4am, Friday through Sunday. This 3 x 12’s shift is 36 hours, but will be paid for 40 hours.
What we need from you :
High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience with simple mathematical calculations, measurements involving calipers and tape measures, and calculation of simple angles preferred.
Experience operating process equipment and monitoring processes via watching a control screen preferred.
Two years of experience in a fabrication and/or manufacturing environment preferred.
General mechanical aptitude/background.
General carpentry skills (saws, cordless drills, hand tools, measurement equipment).
Ability to follow detailed engineering instructions/drawings/checklists to accurately execute tasks required.
Self-starter with drive and initiative to take action.
Must be capable of lifting a maximum of 40 lbs. to standard table height.
Vision must be correctable to 20/20.
Critical thinking and problem solving abilities.
Must have experience working with power tools, hand tools, and material handling equipment (forklifts, cranes, scissor lifts, etc.)
Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
Candidates must pass all required proficiency testing for the position as well as obtain and maintain all required position qualifications upon hire.
