Position Summary

This position is responsible for supporting the turbine/generator engineering group with mechanical troubleshooting on all turbine/generators while in operation and while undergoing inspection/maintenance/repair during in scheduled outages. This position is responsible for providing mechanical field technical oversight and direction for assigned turbine, generator, excitation, boiler feed-pump, and associated projects, including scope development, technical inspection and repair specification. Incumbent will assist with the development and execution of contractor and vendor requirements, project scheduling input, formation and development of turbine project team structure, and delivery of written or verbal communications and presentations. Incumbent must be able to provide technical leadership and project oversight for multiple internal and external project organization members to ensure efficient project execution. Incumbents would be expected to manage multiple (2 to 3) projects in various stages of development, planning and execution.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical direction for the planning, inspection and repair of turbine generators and associated equipment. Examples: This includes managing a turbine valve outage from the initial planning stages through execution and completion

  • Provide communications interface with contractors/vendors and informs outage management of budget, schedule and quality issues. Also provides suggestions and proposals to correct issues that negatively impact budget, schedule and work quality. Provide outage reports on project and recommendations on any outstanding issues needing future repair or inspection

Examples: Supporting the project manager and senior specialist with contacting and tracking work performed off site at vendor’s shop

  • Provide planning instruction for the disassembly inspection and assembly of turbine generator equipment. This includes inspection checklist and datasheet developed for outages which are attached to work packages. Examples: Working with senior work management specialist providing instructions, datasheets and checklist for work packages during the planning phase of an outage.

  • Ensures the development and execution of mobilization and implementation plans for all assigned projects in support of outages are in accordance with applicable procedures and support outage milestones.

  • Provide outage schedules for assigned projects that identify shortest outage duration without compromising safety, quality, or reliability.

  • Ensure materials purchased meet high quality standards, budget constraints and schedule requirements by selecting vendors based on prescribed standards for quality, price and reliability.

  • Provide support during emergent plant issues with turbine generator and associated equipment including technical and troubleshooting.

Required/Basic Qualifications

  • Associates Degree

  • 3 years related work experience

Desired Qualifications

• Bachelors degree• In addition to desired degree, 7 - 9 years related work experience

Working Conditions

  • Field Mobility Classification – Work will be performed in various field locations, as needed. However, field employees are required to live within a reasonable daily commute to their assigned work location.

  • Perform work in a power plant or office environment.

  • Overtime including nights, weekends and holidays if required.

  • Exposure to mechanical, electrical, noise or other industrial hazards, and utilize appropriate protective equipment as needed.

  • Travel More than 50%

  • Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
