Microsoft Corporation Senior Technical Program Manager - Copilot in Mountain View, California

We’re on the lookout for a Technical Program Manager (TPM) to work at the nexus of product and research. As an experienced Technical Program Manager on the Copilot (https://copilot.microsoft.com/) team, you will balance creativity, curiosity, technical expertise, to drive challenging projects to successful completion. You will manage the end-to-end development and deployment of infrastructure supporting model training and inferencing for Microsoft’s Copilot. This includes overseeing projects that ensure robust, scalable, and efficient compute environments essential for delivering high-performance AI solutions. You will work closely with engineers, researchers, data scientists, dependencies and stakeholders to prioritize and execute project plans. We’re looking for someone with a strong technical depth, a passion for metrics and data, an abundance of positive energy, empathy, and kindness, in addition to being highly effective. Our newly formed organization, Microsoft AI (MAI), focuses on Copilot and other consumer AI products and research. We combine world-class AI research together with top notch design and product craft. The wider team is responsible for Copilot, Bing, Edge, and generative AI research, while the Mobile Engineering team is responsible for leading and building the mobile experience of Copilot on iOS and Android, collaborating closely with our Product Management, Design and AI Research teams. This role requires a balance of technical skills and effective people management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of infrastructure projects that support AI model training and inferencing for Microsoft’s Copilot.

  • Define project scopes, goals, and deliverables that support infrastructure objectives, ensuring alignment with cross-functional teams.

  • Oversee the development of scalable and efficient compute environments, optimizing infrastructure for high-performance AI workloads.

  • Oversee the creation and enhancement of tools that support researchers in efficiently running, monitoring, and evaluating model training experiments.

  • Manage and allocatecompute resources such as GPUs, TPUs, and other AI accelerators to meet project requirements.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

  • 2+ years experienceend-to-end infrastructure projects, from planning to execution and delivery, in a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with engineering, research, and operations teams to align on infrastructure needs, timelines, and project requirements.

  • Ability to proactively identify risks, create mitigation strategies, and handle project roadblocks to ensure timely project delivery.

  • Deep understanding of cloud infrastructure, data centers, networking, and storage systems relevant to compute-intensive AI applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Knowledge of GPUs, TPUs, CPUs, and other accelerators commonly used in AI model training.

  • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automating infrastructure processes.

  • Understanding of ML Ops practices to support continuous model training and deployment.

  • Proven ability to collaborate and contribute to a positive, inclusive work environment, fostering knowledge sharing and growth within the team.

Technical Program Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
