Job Description

This role will be based in Mountain View, CA.

At LinkedIn, our approach to flexible work is centered on trust and optimized for culture, connection, clarity, and the evolving needs of our business. The work location of this role is hybrid, meaning it will be performed both from home and from a LinkedIn office on select days, as determined by the business needs of the team.

Espresso is LinkedIn's core data-as-a-service infrastructure (distributed, fault-tolerant NoSQL database). We serve 30M QPS, 3PB Source of Truth data for 400+ LinkedIn applications.

In this role, you will be a reliability-focused Sr. Software Engineering Manager contributing to the Espresso ecosystem including the router and storage node applications. You will lead a team of engineers involved in architecture & design reviews, code reviews, and implementation for automation around the system as well as the core system itself. You will help maintain and improve our disaster recovery and monitoring while engaging with our customers and partner teams across engineering.

Responsibilities:

-You will manage the performance and career development of a team of engineers, and own

significant parts of LinkedIn products that require design, architecture, and coding.

-You will participate with senior management in developing a long-term technology roadmap.

-You will be a role model and professional coach for engineers with a strong bias for action and

focus on craftsmanship.

-You will communicate and collaborate effectively with stakeholders across engineering and business leadership.

-You will work with peers across teams to support and leverage a shared technical stack.

-You will manage teams to scale distributed applications, make architectural trade-offs applying

synchronous and asynchronous design patterns, review code, and deliver with speediness and quality.

-You will produce high-quality software that is unit tested, code reviewed and checked in regularly for continuous integration.

-You will drive a culture of operational excellence, leading the team into defining performance

goals and metrics, and building the infrastructure and tooling necessary to maintain a high

quality bar and detect issues in real time.

-You will create an inclusive work environment that fosters autonomy, transparency, innovation

and learning, while holding a high bar for quality.

Basic Qualifications:

-BA/BS Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline, or equivalent practical

experience.

-3+ years of experience in software engineering/technical management and people

management.

-7+ years of industry experience in software design, development, and large-scale software

engineering.

-Experience programming in object-oriented and/or functional programming languages(like

Java/CPP/Scala/etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

-MS or PhD in Computer Science or related technical discipline

-4+ years of software engineering management experience

-2+ years experience managing managers

-Experience in the design and development of performant, highly available, scalable web applications

-Understanding of common performance patterns and anti-patterns in distributed systems

-Successful track record of managing multiple small teams of engineers to deliver multiple projects on time and with quality

-Active involvement in the creation and execution of technical strategies and roadmaps

-Hire and retain world-class engineers by providing career growth, mentoring, and high impact projects, while taking intelligent risks to improve the way work is done

-Experience collaborating with stakeholders, internal and external at all levels across the company

-Strong experience mentoring and building teams

LinkedIn is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The pay range for this role is $175,000 - $288,000. Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.
