Google Research Scientist, Pixel Touch and Haptics Research in Mountain View, California

Minimum qualifications:

  • PhD in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Experience in software development in one or more programming languages.

  • One or more scientific publication submission(s) for conferences, journals, or public repositories.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with hardware sensing technologies and algorithms for processing sensor data.

  • Experience with mobile or embedded systems development.

  • Experience with human-computer interaction research methods.

  • Python or C++ coding experience.

  • Expertise with signal processing algorithms.

As a Research Scientist, you'll setup large-scale tests and deploy promising ideas quickly and broadly, managing deadlines and deliverables while applying the latest theories to develop new and improved products, processes, or technologies. From creating experiments and prototyping implementations to designing new architectures, our research scientists work on real-world problems that span the breadth of computer science, such as machine (and deep) learning, data mining, natural language processing, hardware and software performance analysis, improving compilers for mobile platforms, as well as core search and much more.

As a Research Scientist, you'll also actively contribute to the wider research community by sharing and publishing your findings, with ideas inspired by internal projects as well as from collaborations with research programs at partner universities and technical institutes all over the world.

The Pixel Touch and Haptics Research team explores and develops new interaction techniques for Pixel devices. We work at the intersection of hardware and software innovation: leveraging specific hardware capabilities on upcoming Pixel devices with software algorithms that have a positive impact on how users interact with their devices. We seek to both improve the existing state-of-the-art and deliver new and innovative user experiences.

We collaborate across the Pixel hardware, Android framework, and Pixel software teams. As a research team within an engineering organization we are responsible for both initiating and proving research concepts, and leading their development and integration into production.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $136,000-$200,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Collaborate with research scientists on new approaches for solving sensor problems for seamless interactions, hardware engineers on sensor specifications and requirements, and software engineering teams on system integration.

  • Implement and validate machine learning models and algorithms that are production-ready in terms of their quality and performance, and manage their integration into the Android/Pixel system.

  • Develop and execute plans for exploring, training, optimizing, and tuning models and algorithms.

  • Measure and analyze the quality of algorithms as they are developed and deployed, and collaborate with UX teams on their evaluations.
