Google Principal Engineer, Generative AI in Mountain View, California

Minimum qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

  • 15 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.

  • 10 years of experience with ML/AI algorithms and tools, deep learning, or other AI/ML modeling.

Preferred qualifications:

  • PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, or related field.

  • Experience in LLM related model fine tuning, large language model building, or product enablement exploration.

  • Experience in successfully applying machine learning approaches to real-world personalization problems.

  • Experience with deep learning frameworks such as TFX or TFlex.

  • Knowledge of statistical methods, and strong mathematical skills.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

The Personalization Modeling and Infrastructure (PMI) team has a goal of up-leveling the central personalization platform to enable strong Search, Discover, and Shopping experiences. We aim to build horizontal user understanding to leverage state-of-the-art AI technology that can ensure a consistent user experience across Google surfaces, with high efficiency and cohesion.

The User Modeling team within the Personalization, Modeling and Infrastructure organization aims to bring step-changes in personalized experiences across Search through refined understanding of our users' interests, preferences, and tastes, leveraging advanced AI/ML technology.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $278,000-$399,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Develop and deploy personalized large language models (LLMs) to empower search and recommendation systems for a variety of applications. Conduct applied research on new LLM techniques for concrete product use cases.

  • Work with collaborating teams' (e.g., Research, Search, Discover, Shopping, etc.) Engineers to integrate LLMs into our products and services.

  • Contribute to the vision and roadmaps of Search, Discover, and Shopping.
