Saint-Gobain EHS Manager in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee

Job Summary

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager provides leadership and guidance for all employees to continuously improve facility safety, health, and environmental metrics to world-class levels by engaging and interacting with all employees.

The EHS Manager is responsible for the development & implementation of programs that comply with federal, state, and local EH&S regulations. The incumbent will manage the complete EH&S programs for the Mount Pleasant, TN facility in accordance with Saint-Gobain standards, to minimize all EH&S risks and reduce potential liabilities. The incumbent will be responsible for regulatory and company environmental compliance activity and facilitating the site Environmental Management System (EMS). This role requires strong leadership skills and the ability to work closely with the Plant Supervisors, Department Managers, and employees to provide the proper training and guidance for compliance with all governmental regulations and facility policies.

Site Responsibility

  • Provide program leadership, guidance, expertise, and technical support to management and employee-led safety and environmental committees in the identification, measurement, and control of EHS risks.

  • Analyze and understand plant operations, determine their impact on employee safety, health, and the environment, and work with managers, supervisors, and employees to develop and comply with EHS policies and procedures.

  • Develop, implement, train, counsel, and enforce EHS policies and procedures consistent with Saint-Gobain and CBI group standards.

  • Participate in the development, understanding, and review of all position JSA and SOPs to ensure environmental impacts are analyzed.

  • Maintains all plant safety statistics data in the reporting system

  • Compiles and submits agency reporting and maintains safety, health & environmental files and records

  • Drive initiatives to shift the safety culture towards a more preventive and employee-driven approach.

Risk Analysis & Mitigation

  • Performs incident response and management including incident investigations, root cause analysis, development and implementation of corrective action plans, and related documentation and communication.

  • Support the planning and implementation of EHS loss prevention programs and projects necessary to control exposures to losses such as occupational injuries and illnesses, environmental contamination, and property damage at the incumbent’s site.

  • Performs facility and operational EH&S reviews to identify deviations from regulatory or company requirements and collaborates with stakeholders to identify options for corrective action.

  • Assists in risk management property insurance inspections, and manages all required corrections.

Integrated Management Systems & Control

  • Utilize computerized database management systems, investigate, and publish incident data concerning company and departmental loss experience, i.e., types, root causes, and frequency of injuries, illnesses, spills, and releases.

  • Ensure that proper monitoring of workplace exposures to potentially harmful chemicals/materials/conditions is performed by proper sampling protocols. Compile and analyze data and make recommendations for improvements.

Reporting & Liaison

  • Maintains EPA records of hazardous waste, air emission permits, and water pollution discharge, as well as industrial health monitoring and records of employee hazard exposure according to OSHA regulations.

  • Interact with agency contacts & lead on-site visits or inspections from EHS regulatory personnel.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Health & Safety, Engineering, or Environmental Sciences is required

  • 5 or more years of experience in a manufacturing environment with demonstrated experience in effective implementation of safety programs

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of changing situations

  • Must be a self-starter and be able to function in a team-oriented atmosphere with little to no supervision

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

  • Possesses strong analytic work methodology and problem-solving skills and demonstrates a systematic approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement

  • Must be able to effectively use Microsoft Office, including Excel/Word/PowerPoint and other programs as needed

  • Successful candidate must exhibit model behavior as related to site EHS policies and practices

  • Must be able to influence without authority to accomplish change on the plant floor

  • Must have the capacity to develop efficient and effective exchanges with others. Ability to provide oral and written information in a clear, open transparent, and timely manner. It also requires the capacity to listen to others to allow the most efficient and constructive communication and exchange of ideas. Demonstrates the capacity to understand others' points of view (needs, values, centers of interest, connections, aspirations, etc.) which, in turn, enables effective negotiation, influence, and/or persuasion

  • Must be able to use a systematic approach to problem-solving with limited supervision and support from others.

  • Ability to use sound judgment and execute proper decision-making when problems arise

  • Ability to build and develop teams to achieve specified goals and to be self-sufficient

Travel Requirements

Travel to other CBI sites as needed up to 15% of the time.-
