Position Summary:

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Central Michigan University seeks a dynamic theatre artist to fill a tenure-track position that will lead the BFA Music Theatre program beginning in August 2024.

This position offers the successful candidate the opportunity to direct and choreograph for musicals and plays annually in the mainstage season and teach music theatre performance, music theatre history, acting, and dance classes. Joining your colleagues in building relationships with state and regional programs and high school theatre teachers, and making direct contact with potential students as an active recruiter for the music theatre program will be an important function of this position. The Department of Theatre and Dance has scholarships available to help recruit new students in all of its areas. We are seeking an individual who is eager to collaboratively engage with theatre, dance, and music colleagues in the creation of inclusive performances and classes. We seek a colleague who seeks to develop our program in Music theatre and its students, as well as their individual artistry and skills through professional development and creative ventures in support of their progress towards tenure.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about working as part of an artistic and scholarly team of educators to provide an exemplary educational experience that puts students first and prepares them for success after graduation.

Required Qualifications:

• Terminal degree/equivalent record of professional accomplishments in the field. • Experience teaching in higher education. • Experience teaching acting and dance. • Experience stage directing and choreographing musicals. • Evidence of successfully fostering an environment that advances diversity, equity, and inclusion. • Evidence of being a collaborative creator. • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with curriculum development • An MFA in Theatre or Musical Theatre • 1-3 years experience in higher education

The Department offers the BFA degree in Musical Theatre, Acting/Directing and Design/Tech; the BAA degree in both Theatre and Dance Studies; and the BA/BS in Theatre and Interpretation. Minors are offered in both Theatre and Dance disciplines.
