Richmond Community Services Physical Therapy Assistant in Mount Kisco, New York

Under the direction of the Coordinator of Rehabilitative Services, and under the combined administrative supervision/direction of a licensed Physical Therapist, executes plans and implements physical Therapy treatment programs. The Physical Therapy Assistant also provides services that will maintain and/or restore function secondary to acute or chronic disability; conducts annual screens, and daily documentation if warranted.

The Physical Therapy Assistant demonstrates knowledge of Richmond’s quality mission, vision, and values. In addition, this position actively participates in quality improvement projects (i.e. communicating issues, and offering suggestions) to ensure the ongoing excellence of Richmond residents, staff, and programs.

Essential Job Functions

• Review the individuals’ medical records; verify MD’s order and physical therapy assessment before implementing the PT treatment required. Maintain active/up-to-date MD prescriptions as outlined by NYS Department of Health.

• Communicate with the supervisor regarding individuals’ status/functioning in the areas of: sensorimotor, musculoskeletal status, CNS status, ambulation and adaptive equipment needs (e.g. walker, canes, AFO’s). All documentation must be dated and signed.

• Confer with physicians and other health care practitioners to obtain additional consumer information. Integrate input from the individuals’, family, and direct care staff in treatment.

• Write specific, objective, and measurable documentation, which are outcome-oriented and detail the individuals’ needs, potential to benefit from treatment, and progress achieved to date. Notes MUST be co-signed by a licensed physical therapist, minimally monthly, with professional initials. Record individuals’ treatment, response, progress, and outcome/supportive programs. Consult with the supervisor when appropriate to implement recommendations.

• Provide training to the individuals’ families and/or direct care staff in specified follow-through programs.

• Communicate effectively with discharge planning from rehabilitative programs.

• Participate and attend annual and semi-annual conferences for all the individuals receiving Physical Therapy services.

• Provide a treatment plan including ROM, therapeutic exercise, weight-bearing activities, and wheelchair mobility. Provide treatment to individuals within the facility-specified time frame.

• Perform all duties as assigned

Qualifications & Minimum Requirements

• Must be a certified Physical Therapy Assistant

• NY State License

• One year of experience working with people with developmental disabilities preferable.

Pay starting from $30.00 to $33.78, pay commensurate based upon experience.
