Richmond Community Services Physical Therapist in Mount Kisco, New York

Richmond Community Services, a leading non-profit provider of support services for Westchester County's developmentally, intellectually and behaviorally challenged individuals is seeking a Physical Therapist to provide support in our ICF and group home locations.

Under the direction of the Coordinator of Rehabilitative Services, the Physical Therapist (PT) plans and implements prescribed physical therapy treatment programs for consumers to maintain and/or restore function secondary to acute or chronic disability. The PT conducts annual screens, assessments, and daily documentation. In addition, the PT will maintain active/current MD prescriptions as outlined by the NYS Department of Health.

The Physical Therapist demonstrates knowledge of Richmond’s quality mission, vision, and values. In addition, this position actively participates in quality improvement projects (i.e. communicating issues, offering suggestions) to ensure ongoing excellence of Richmond residents, staff, and programs.

Essential Job Functions

  • Review physician referral and consumers' medical records prior to determining PT treatment required. Refer individuals to specialty clinics as needed (adaptive equipment, shoe splint, etc).

  • Evaluate and assess the individual’s needs and level of functioning in the areas of: sensorimotor, gross and fine motor skills, musculoskeletal status, CNS status, ambulation, and adaptive equipment needs (e.g. walker, canes, AFOs).

  • Confer with physicians and other health care practitioners to obtain additional consumer information. Integrate input from the individual, family, and direct support staff in treatment assessment and recommendations.

  • Devise treatment plans based on the assessment; administer treatment involving the application of modalities; hydrotherapy, hot packs, cold packs, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation; instruct motivate, and assist individuals in various exercise programs utilizing weights, exercise machines, mat activities, assistive devices, orthoses, and prostheses.

  • Write specific, objective, and measurable documentation which are outcome-oriented and detail the individual's needs, potential to benefit from treatment and progress achieved to date. All documentation must be dated and signed with professional initials. Record consumers' treatment, response, progress, and outcome/supportive programs.

  • Consult with supervisor/manager when appropriate to implement recommendations.

  • Provide training to individual’s families and/or direct support staff in specified follow-through programs.

  • Communicate effectively with staff regarding discharge planning from the rehabilitative program.

  • Participate and attend annual and semiannual conferences for all individuals receiving physical therapy services.

  • Supervise the PTA (clinical supervision) and therapists on limited permits including providing co-signatures on all notes in a timely fashion, and performing.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications, Minimum Requirements & Work Schedule

  • Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy school/program.

  • NYS License or eligible for licensure to practice physical therapy.

  • Valid driver’s license required. Reliable transportation for local travel is preferred

  • This position works a 35-hour/week schedule; this position is exempt and is not eligible for overtime pay

Compensation starts at $38.46 to $43.31, based upon experience.
