SUMMARY

Plan and implements all Head Start Program Performance Standards. Supervision of all classroom staff and ensure the classroom routine, schedule, and daily operations are consistent and maintained. Ensure PBIS strategies are implemented by all classroom staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Education and Child Development Program Services

  • Create a developmentally appropriate environment for children that will incorporate and encourage the use of language, social, cognitive, and motor skills of each child.
    • Work with children individually and in small and large group settings
    • Follow the Creative Curriculum with fidelity
    • Implement Positive Behavior Intervention and Support
  • Prepare and carry out weekly lesson plans with developmentally appropriate activities incorporating all of The Head Start Child Development and Early Learning Framework and the Iowa Early Learning Standards; submit lesson plans two weeks in advance.
  • Provide an environment of respect for each individual childs culture, home language and family composition through use of language and social experiences, and classroom materials.
  • Provide experiences of social/emotional development using a researched based curriculum (Teaching Strategies GOLD) for children through a balance of child initiated and adult initiated activities.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of, and implements, developmentally appropriate practices and early childhood development.
  • Provide inclusion of children with disabilities consistent with their Individual Education Plan (IEP) and attend IEP meetings. Implement their IEP goals in the classroom.
  • Completes the developmental, literacy and behavioral assessment screening on all children including parent input in this process.
  • Develop individualized education plans for each child following initial screening and assessment information. Document progress and update goals as skills change/grow throughout the year.
  • Complete child assessment three times per year and enter documentation of childrens development.
  • Complete General Education Interventions with children and document progress/changes. Meet monthly with Education/Disabilities Coordinator to develop plans.
  • Must be willing to participate in on-going professional development.

Health Program Services

  • Make determination of a childs health status. Refer families to appropriate primary healthcare, which includes medical, dental, and mental health.
  • Acts as a liaison involving parent(s) in a follow-up/treatment and ongoing health care for their child.

``` - Implement practices and requirements that promote positive, culturally relevant health behavior. - Responsible for the completion and supervision of cleaning and maintenance of the classroom, restrooms, storage areas, kitchen and any building areas that the program uses. - Assist families in meeting each childs nutritional needs, which includes implementing the food program requirements and supervision of staff responsible for food service tasks. - Collaborate with families, staff, mental health professionals, and the community to increase awareness and understanding of mental health wellness and early childhood development. Family and Community Engagement Program Services Assist with the support of families as they identify and meet their goals and nurture the development of their children. Collaborate with community agencies to advocate for services that support children and families of all cultures. - Assist with the recruitment, coordinating, supervising and training of volunteers in the classroom. - Assist with completion of required family engagement documentation. - Complete two home visits and two parent teacher conferences (at minimum) per year. - Collaborate with classroom staff and the Family Engagement Coordinator regarding classroom family events, Parent Committee meetings an encourage community-wide events. - Must be flexible with schedule and hours to accommodate Family Events, home visits, and conferences, etc. - Encourage regular classroom attendance per Attendance Policy. - Encourage parent involvement through volunteering in the classroom, parent teacher conferences, home visits, parent meetings, parent training and education activities that are responsive to parent needs.
