A Day in the Life

Medtronic's Cardiac Ablation Solutions division in searching for a dynamic Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing team! The chosen candidate will be heavily involved in supporting the design work for a critical ablation program. Cardiac Ablation Solutions team is engaged in developing next generation medical technologies that save lives and improves the quality of living for millions of patients across the world.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

  • Complex product design activities.

  • Perform concept development and prototyping.

  • Design / develop components to be manufactured via plastic injection molding, stamping, machining, extrusion and related processes.

  • Create and interpret analyses to determine suitability of design concepts.

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff.

  • Incorporate risk-based decision-making into the design process.

  • Apply Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies to all aspects of the design/development process.

  • Ensure on-time completion of Design Control deliverables.

  • Grow and maintain knowledge current with related technologies.

  • Work with manufacturing and suppliers to ensure feasibility of high-volume assembly.

  • Translate VoX feedback into product requirements.

  • Create and release engineering drawings, reports, and presentations.

  • Travel to supplier and manufacturing sites as required.

  • Present technical findings or project status to cross functional teams and management through meeting minutes, design reviews, presentations, and other means of communication.

  • Research, plan, design, verify, validate electromechanical products and systems.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this role, please ensure the minimum requirements are evident in your applicant profile.

  • Bachelor's of engineering degree and 7+ years of experience in mechanical product development

  • Or, Master of Engineering degree and 5+ years of experience in mechanical product development

Nice to Have

  • Experience in the medical device industry.

  • Experience in complex mechanical system design.

  • Experience with plastic injection molding in a high-volume environment.

  • Extensive experience in 3D modeling, finite element analysis, and statistical design analysis.

  • Process and test method development, validation.

  • Formal training in Six Sigma methodologies.

  • Experience designing/developing catheters.

  • Experience with high-volume manufacturing.

The provided base salary range is used nationally (except in certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.
