Job Summary:
Implements and improves testing, development and validation techniques, processes, tooling and machinery to maximize product quality.
What You Will Do:
This position is focused on testing and managing sound on Caterpillar components and products. The position will:
Assist with review of the design and risk analysis
Assist with test planning
Set up and execute tests
Analyze tests results and provide reports
Make recommendations for changes as appropriate
Collaborate within the Sound team to improve process quality and efficiency
Effective oral and written communication skills are critical
Position is hands-on so mechanical aptitude is required
This work requires capability to take acoustic and vibration data. It also requires capability to perform simulation-based acoustic and vibration analysis.
Responsibilities
• Resolving issues regarding the design or manufacturing. Ensuring design acceptance and manufacturing readiness.
• Participating in the adoption of new technologies and processes (test automation, sound simulation, etc.) to achieve greater efficiency, cost reduction and quality improvement.
• Planning and improving testing procedures and operations to make the test more reliable, efficient and cost-effective.
• Monitoring results, machine and process capabilities and performance reliability.
Education Requirement:
B.S. in Engineering
Top Candidates Will Have:
• 5 yrs of direct work experience with acoustic testing and simulation (3 yrs of direct work experience with acoustic testing and simulation with an M.S. in Engineering with focus on NVH/Noise Control)
• Preference will also be given to candidates with direct experience working on noise control in industrial equipment with cabs and enclosures.

• Good engineering judgement is required in order to deliver efficient and high quality design information.
• The sound team acts as consultants on teams so the job requires processing inputs and constructing solid recommendations.
• The product need drives the work so it is required to know when to stop running test / analysis and make a decision.
Effective Communications:
• Actively participates in collaborative meetings by both listening, asking questions, and providing appropriate input.
• Can process client requests into a work plan and communicate back, making adjustments as needed.
• Can communicate the test plans to process partners and keep all elements of the test execution on track.
• Can build written and oral test reports that provide technical results and supported recommendations.
Technical Excellence:
• Understands and continually learns more about mechanical systems and can determine points of sound risk.
• Has competency in taking and processing high frequency data with microphones and accelerometers.
• Has competency with sound-based data acquisition tools like HBK Connect or Siemens Test Lab.
• Has competency with sound simulation software like VA-1 or Simcenter 3D acoustic modules.
Troubleshooting Technical Problems:
• Documents common hardware, software and communications problems and likely resolutions.
• Troubleshoots typical technical problems with instrumentation, devices under test, and processing of data.
• Takes initiative to independently and remotely resolve test issues, especially when traveling.
Additional Information
The location for this position is Mossville, IL.
Relocation assistance is not available for this position. Any relocation costs incurred would be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
The position will require up to 25% travel as the work can be performed at various field sites internal and external to Caterpillar.

Summary Pay Range:
$87,480.00 - $131,280.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
