Professional Rank and Salary Range: Appendix A; $74,000 - $82,000 (annualized salary)

Brief Description of Duties:

SUNY Morrisville is seeking a Director of Residence Life and Residential Education.

The Director of Residence Life & Residential Education will be expected to demonstrate visionary and collaborative leadership that supports divisional and campus-wide efforts in several focus areas: student well-being, student sense of belonging, student engagement, and will develop a residential campus experience that supports student success.

The Director will possess the skills to effectively partner with multiple stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be a student-centered professional that is capable of balancing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. The Director reports to the Vice President of Student Affairs and is a key member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive and collaborative approach to community building and education in the residence halls that supports the division's mission and strategic initiatives.

  • Regularly evaluate and analyze key metrics for advancing the residential and housing programs and initiatives focused on student engagement, wellness, and success.

  • Effectively and strategically analyze, forecast, and manage all Residence Life operating budgets; annually review housing license in collaboration with the VPSA, MAC, the Budget Office, and the Office of General Counsel.

  • Recruit, supervise, evaluate, and train department staff, including but not limited to direct oversight of one Assistant Director and 5 Area Coordinators and Resident Assistants.

  • Ensure full utilization of all software tools such as StarRez, MAxient, Banner, etc. by all appropriate staff.

  • Collaborate with the Division's senior leadership team on divisional initiatives. Serve on Divisional and College Committees as needed, such as CARE, TAM, Student Success, etc.

  • Lead residence hall move-in and move-out processes in collaboration with key stakeholders.

  • Work collaboratively with the Coordinator of Student Rights and Responsibilities to supervise residential conduct officers and serve as a senior-level conduct hearing officer whenever necessary.

  • Collaborate with facilities management and planning to ensure the physical aspects of the student experience in the residence halls; contribute to planning and implementation of renovations.

  • Develop the educational components of both themed housing areas; stage the implementation of living learning communities that are collaborative with campus faculty partners.

  • Serve as member of on call team; respond to or assist in a campus crisis or student emergency; work with medical personnel or emergency services staff to assess students' status and evaluate ability to return to campus; conduct necessary follow-up with University Police, local agencies, and/or parents and staff as needed; assist with coordination, communication, and implementation of emergency response plans and actions.

  • Support the College's CARE Team. Advise and execute individualized interventions for students to support their personal and academic success as directed.

  • Provide individual guidance, advice, and counsel to students related to personal, academic, and community matters; refer when necessary and/or appropriate.

  • Develop and manage Residence Life content for the website, Mo'Engage, and social media.

  • Serve on departmental and campus committees and assume additional responsibilities as assigned by the VPSA.

  • Develop and implement best practice operational and administrative processes relating to the annual review of housing inventory; management of a strategy to maximize space allocation in residence halls; housing selection, room assignments and changes; all communications of policies and procedures associated with opening and closing of halls, early arrivals, health and safety inspections; and implementation of all Residence Life policies and procedures.

    Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, or closely related field;

  • 6+ years of progressively increasing responsibilities in leadership roles within residence life;

  • 1+ year of experience with assessment planning and/or at least 1 year of experience working with themed housing/Living learning communities;

  • 1+ year of experience with housing software, i.e. StarRez, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of progressively increasing responsibilities in leadership roles within residence life or related work.

  • Advanced knowledge of student development theory, program development, management, and evaluation.

  • Demonstrated experience in student group advisement and development; student and staff training development; and student leadership program development.

  • Strong knowledge and command of college safety policies, student conduct processes, and related legal considerations in student affairs.

  • Experience with residential curriculum

  • Experience with themed housing or living learning communities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of assessment practice in Student Affairs work;

  • Demonstrated knowledge, experience, and ability to work with a diverse population of students, faculty and staff;

  • Demonstrated experience in planning and executing large-scale, campus-wide programs;

  • Experience with budget management.
