Atlantic Health System Lead Perinatal Sonography Technologist, MMC in Morristown, New Jersey

Responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the diagnostic imaging staff in alignment with the mission, values and goals of the organization. Gives work direction to assigned personnel and participates in the operation of providing ultrasound diagnostic services to both inpatients and outpatients. Serves as the liaison between management, staff and physicians.

Principal Accountabilities:

Performs obstetrical ultrasound using a variety of high tech equipment, including vaginal probes, on any patient to the Prenatal Testing Center.

  • Performs non-stress testing, contraction stress testing, and biophysical profiles on both inpatients and outpatients referred to the Prenatal Testing Center

  • Performs obstetrical ultrasound in conjunction with Primatologists to detect fetal anomalies.

  • Assists in prenatal diagnostic procedures, e.g, and amniocentesis, PUBS, CVS, preparing patients, providing ultrasound guidance and handling of specimens.

  • Works closely with the biomedical engineering staff and appropriate service agencies to assure the integrity of the monitoring and ultrasound equipment.

  • Assists and instructs attending physicians, residents, and other trainees in techniques of fetal monitoring and ultrasonography; assists in in-service training with respect to sonography and fetal maternal monitoring, serves as a lecturer to residents, medical students, and nurses in electronic and sonography in medicine (i.e., electrode physiology and the electronics of fetal monitoring).

  • Assists in the investigation and collection of data referable to third party funding for patient care and work cooperatively with the fiscal section of the department with respect to sharing expertise and designing method to realize the maximum reimbursement for services rendered by the Prenatal Testing Center.

  • Works actively in development and implementation of departmental research projects; coordinates and maintains records of projects and keeps abreast of developments in research by participating in conference and professional organizations.

  • Keeps accurate and complete records on all patients tested and maintains log books (CVS, Amnio, abnormal scans, etc) up-to date.

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Associate Degree & certification in the Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (RDMS) is required.

  • Two years clinical experience including OBGYN, sonography, and patient contact. Must have completed structured training/course work in obstetric sonography.

  • BLS Certification required.
