Summit Scholars - TRIO Student Support Services, a U.S. Department of Education supported program, promotes access, equal opportunity, and success for students who are first-generation in college, students who are low income, and students who have disabilities. The success coach works collaboratively with academic and student affairs colleagues to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where SSS eligible students thrive. Project components include academic support, financial wellness/literacy education, FAFSA assistance, career and graduate school exploration, and cohort-building programming. The position reports to the Student Support Services director. Provides programming and services focused on advocating and supporting students from all backgrounds. Participates in the development and administration of programs and services to create and maintain a diverse and inclusive University community where all students feel like they belong. May be responsible for cultural or intercultural student affairs or centers. May have responsibility for providing programming, advocacy, and support related to women's, LGBTQ, and or veterans' issues. May be responsible for assuring equal access for persons with mental health and other disabilities to all educational and vocational programs, identifying and providing reasonable accommodations to ensure equal educational opportunities for individuals with disabilities. May design, implement, and evaluate programs to support the personal and professional health and well-being of students. May provide resources and consultation about alleged student conduct violations inside or outside of the classroom with a focus on student development and restorative justice, reviewing, revising, and creating policies and procedures that provide a fair student conduct process, as well as determining outcomes and providing information about due process for Title IX cases. May provide a spectrum of opportunities to resolve conflict and community concerns involving students, including mediation, coaching, facilitated dialogues, shuttle diplomacy, and circles. May provide outreach and resources in the promotion and advancement of student academic integrity, conflict resolution, and community standards. Supervision Incumbents may have the the authority to perform or to effectively recommend the following actions: hire, transfer, suspend, promote, discharge, assign work, reward, discipline, direct the work of other employees, and adjust grievances. Incumbents in this classification, who do not have formal supervisory authority may be assigned these responsibilities: mentor/coach, provide guidance, lead project teams, committees and or other collaborative efforts, interview applicants, assign, schedule, direct work, and or evaluate the work of colleagues and co-workers. Job duties Student Advising and Support (60%) Provide direct mentoring, coaching, guidance and referrals for 65 project participants; create and implement student academic success plans; assist students in acclimating to college. Help students navigate University policies and procedures. Assist students in achieving their goals utilizing intrusive and appreciative advising practices and effective intervention strategies. Advance student persistence, degree progress, graduation and graduate school matriculation. Work within the student affairs and campus life response team protocols to provide crisis management support: assess severity of situation; consult with SSS staff and relevant offices (e.g., Health Services, Residential Life, Student Affairs, Counseling, Campus Police, etc.); ensure good reporting and communication. Provide ongoing support and consultation to the student through the duration of the crisis. Use information f om data systems to monitor student academic progress reports at key academic markers, such as probation, and degree application. Communicate with students, academic alert team, and others to foster students' academic and career success, address concerns, and help maintain a coordinated approach. Work closely with faculty and staff to effectively deliver advising and support services. Log student contacts, academic success plans, referrals, and follow-up communications. Maintain student records. Program Development and Collaboration (25%) Assist with the planning and implementation of the Student Support Services project plan of operation with a focus on first year experience programming; serve as the lead on one or more project components. Assist with planning and implementation for participant recruitment, selection, and success. Work collaboratively with project partners (Office of Academic Success, Financial Aid, One Stop, Admissions, etc.) to advance the project goals and objectives. Compose and/or prepare promotional materials, forms, newsletters, and manuals. Stay abreast of current trends and philosophies in student development and success for SSS student populations; engage in scholarly, leadership, professional development or creative activities to effectively support the SSS student population. Participate in state, regional, and national TRIO and similar conferences and meetings and campus governance for professional development and to foster program collaboration. Program Assessment, Financial Management, and Compliance Support (15%) Coordinate financial system record keeping for the project. Respond to and initiate inquiries for the processing of purchasing, reimbursements, travel, etc. Ensure compliance with all state, federal, and university regulations and policies, especially as they relate to the coordination of the SSS project and the students it serves. Stay up to date with all federal regulations regarding the SSS program and how those regulations affect student participants and services. Work with project director and external evaluator to create, administer, and analyze utilization data, surveys, focus groups, and other forms of assessment for project evaluation. Qualifications Qualifications Essential qualifications (appointment level and work duties will reflect qualifications): Bachelor's degree Four years of experience working with students who are first generation in college from low-income households and/or students with documented disabilities Training in educational success and retention strategies for historically underserved populations. Knowledge of educational opportunity programs Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to diverse student populations and the ability to contribute to the University's commitment to a diverse and inclusive learning environment. Preferred qualifications: Master's degree Professional experience working in a higher education setting Knowledge of first year experience programming Professional experience advising/coaching/mentoring college students.
