Amentum Mechanical Engineer in Morgantown, West Virginia
Amentum is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support operations at the DOE National Energy Technology Laboratory in Morgantown, WV. This position will primarily support the engineering research group by performing small-scale R&D design projects, evaluating and optimizing existing systems, troubleshooting systems, and working closely with the site technicians. This position requires a hands-on approach, a strong work ethic, excellent troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to excellence.
Under general direction, design mechanical components for new and existing research projects at the NETL site.
Prepare and check moderately complex calculations within the Mechanical Engineering discipline, including pipe/vessel design calculations and pressure relief valve sizing calculations following ASME codes such as B31.3, Section VIII and IX
Efficiently use Autodesk AutoCAD to prepare engineering drawings, including but not limited to P&IDs, mechanical fabrication drawings, and room/building layout drawings.
Independently lead design/build projects across all 3 NETL sites.
Lead commissioning, shakedown, and testing activities on new or modifications to electrical and control systems in the laboratories.
Review interdisciplinary engineering documents and work with other engineering team members to resolve issues.
Create and review purchase orders, statements of work, and subcontracts.
Support in-house technicians on new installations and maintenance/modification issues.
Maintain a positive working relationship with and communicate effectively with the customer.
Limited day travel to the Pittsburgh NETL sister site is required. (5%-10%)
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited University.
5 Plus years’ experience.
Proficient with AutoCAD and creating 2D drawings such as Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), mechanical fabrication drawings, and room/building layout drawings.
Experience using MasterCAM or similar software to create programming for CNC machines used at the Morgantown site.
Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location
