Amentum Mechanical Engineer in Morgantown, West Virginia

Amentum is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support operations at the DOE National Energy Technology Laboratory in Morgantown, WV. This position will primarily support the engineering research group by performing small-scale R&D design projects, evaluating and optimizing existing systems, troubleshooting systems, and working closely with the site technicians. This position requires a hands-on approach, a strong work ethic, excellent troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to excellence.

  • Under general direction, design mechanical components for new and existing research projects at the NETL site.

  • Prepare and check moderately complex calculations within the Mechanical Engineering discipline, including pipe/vessel design calculations and pressure relief valve sizing calculations following ASME codes such as B31.3, Section VIII and IX

  • Efficiently use Autodesk AutoCAD to prepare engineering drawings, including but not limited to P&IDs, mechanical fabrication drawings, and room/building layout drawings.

  • Independently lead design/build projects across all 3 NETL sites.

  • Lead commissioning, shakedown, and testing activities on new or modifications to electrical and control systems in the laboratories.

  • Review interdisciplinary engineering documents and work with other engineering team members to resolve issues.

  • Create and review purchase orders, statements of work, and subcontracts.

  • Support in-house technicians on new installations and maintenance/modification issues.

  • Maintain a positive working relationship with and communicate effectively with the customer.

  • Limited day travel to the Pittsburgh NETL sister site is required. (5%-10%)

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited University.

  • 5 Plus years’ experience.

  • Proficient with AutoCAD and creating 2D drawings such as Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), mechanical fabrication drawings, and room/building layout drawings.

  • Experience using MasterCAM or similar software to create programming for CNC machines used at the Morgantown site.

Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location
