To provide direct mental health services to deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing adults coping with mental health challenges and serve as the treatment expert to public and private mental health care agencies primarily within the Northwest region in Minnesota. The incumbent will also provide telehealth services statewide. The incumbent will have an office in Moorhead. These services will enable deaf and hard of hearing clients to access culturally and linguistically affirmative mental health services in their home areas and for the mental health care agencies to receive expert consultation services for providing appropriate services to this population.

Some more responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • The Clinical Program Therapist 3 (MH Specialist) will provide direct mental health services to deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing clients, not limited to individuals, couples, family, and group counseling.

  • The MH Specialist will provide consultation services to mental health care organizations, local private/public agencies, county/state human services agencies, consumer advocates, and family members on the treatment of deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing clients, including treatment plans, interagency coordination, and community placement assistance.

  • The MH Specialist will consistently record client contacts, document progress notes, compose treatment plans, and any other client-related activities according to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Division (DHHSD) Mental Health Program protocol.

  • The MH Specialist will coordinate the regional mental health resources provided through the DHHSD Mental Health Program, ensuring its statewide programmatic goals are met.

  • The MH Specialist will be sensitive to the cultural differences of deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing clients.

  • The MH Specialist will ensure that all communications pertaining to their deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing clients occur promptly and efficiently.

Minimum Qualifications

To facilitate proper crediting, please ensure that your resume clearly describes your experience in the areas listed and indicates the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.

One (1) year of professional experience providing direct mental health services to deaf and hard of hearing individuals.

Experience must clearly demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of the video technology used by deaf and hard of hearing people

  • Advanced skills in American Sign Language (ASL)

  • Master’s Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or behavioral-health related field.

  • Must be licensed or eligible for licensure by the State of Minnesota (i.e., Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW), Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and working toward independent licensure.

  • Knowledge of Minnesota’s Behavioral Health and disability service delivery systems.

  • Must have a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Variety of experiences working effectively with others from different backgrounds and cultures.

  • Knowledge of clinical/crisis interventions and psychiatric medications.

  • Ability to provide consultation services to mental health care organizations.

  • Familiarity with behavioral health and disability services and support resources.

  • Strong human relations and communication skills.

  • Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) criminal background check will be conducted on all finalists for this position. Finalists must pass the DHS background check.
