Responsibilities Supervise and is responsible for the maintenance of the powerplant, dam, reservoir, and related facilities. Supervise a mixed crew of crafts consisting of electricians, plant mechanics, electronic equipment mechanics, maintenancemen, etc. May also supervise the operations of the generators, gates, valves, and related electrical and mechanical equipment and ensure that maintenance operational checks and operational functions are performed, such as releasing clearances, performing switching, etc. As necessary, also performs journeyman level maintenance work. Direct the work of journeymen and sets the standard of workmanship ensuring the quality and quantity of work produced. Establish a collaborative working relationship with stakeholders to ensure that their needs are heard and addressed. Identify and analyze problems; distinguishes between relevant and irrelevant information to make logical decisions and develop solutions. Use project management, conflict management, mediation, team building, and negotiation tools to achieve results in a collaborative spirit. You must meet at least 2 points on the screen-out element(s) and obtain an average of at least 2 points on all of the job elements in order to be considered qualified for this position. This position supervises journey-level workers in multiple crafts for which a 4-year (8,000) apprenticeship program has been established between the Bureau of Reclamation, UC Region, and the Department of Labor. Applicants should have completed a formal apprentice program directly related to electronic, electrical, mechanical or plant operation or possess journey-level technical experience supplemented by formal training and college level/technical course work (military or technical trade schools) or extensive on-the-job training which demonstrates knowledge of at least one of the following areas: experience with power plants and water release equipment, conducting inspections, and operating hydroelectric generating units; experience troubleshooting, assembling, maintaining, installing, and repairing complex, state-of-the-art digital and analog electronic industrial controls and equipment typically found in hydroelectric power plants; electrical practices required for troubleshooting, assembling, maintaining, installing, adjusting and repairing heavy industrial electrical equipment, including power, distribution, and power generation machinery and equipment; or knowledge of the application of industrial maintenance practices required for welding, operating cranes, rigging, pipefitting and troubleshooting, repairing and installing heavy industrial equipment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Permanent Change of Station (PCS) expenses are authorized with the exception of the Guaranteed Home Sale Provision or first-post-of-duty relocation expenses are authorized, as applicable.
