Fuels Process Expert

Location: Remote

You will be a key team member of a client facing consulting team opining upon the process engineering and evaluation for petrochemical, biochemical, thermochemical, and other processes. Additionally, this person will review quality assurance and quality control documentation, standards of practice, and project management practices of catalyst developers. In these areas and more, you’ll find ICF experts backed by 40+ years of experience, our energy experts work at the intersection of technology and finance, policy and practice, helping investors, developers, and select government clients devise effective investment strategies, develop, construct, and maintain energy assets, and implement programs for today and the future.

To support our growth, we seek a Process Expert to work in our Technical Advisory line of business. The consultant will prepare due diligence reports, provide subject matter expertise to support financial transactions, as well as have a key role in development of innovative, accurate, timely, and high-quality products and services. Team members at ICF have an opportunity to apply their experience and academic knowledge, gain exposure to major projects, and interact with experts and clients in the field, while building content knowledge and consulting skills. Team members advance in our consulting practice typically develop an area of special competence, with increasing responsibility for project management, subject matter expertise, and client contact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review bench, pilot, and commercial scale data from technology developers and provide opinions on methodologies used, performance, and commercialization pathway.

  • Discuss the binder, modifier, filler, porogen, plasticizer, support, and active phase of the catalyst and their state of development.

  • Review and discuss the catalyst development process, including catalyst preparation process and the potential impacts of scale-up from pilot to commercial scale.

  • Review and discuss the process clean-up steps and potential poisons in the process and their impacts.

  • Assist clients with development of catalyst development programs.

    Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Inorganic Chemistry, Engineering, or related disciplines and 10+ years of relevant energy industry experience

  • A history of leading catalyst development efforts.

  • Understanding of heterogeneous catalyst preparation requirements and methodologies.

  • Ability to write clear concise technology evaluation reports.

  • Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, Access)

    Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Advanced degree in Inorganic Chemistry, or Engineering

  • Experience in grant writing

  • Experience specifying and procuring laboratory equipment

  • Experience in thermochemical or biochemical processes for producing biofuels.

  • Previous consulting experience

    Professional Skills:

  • Understands task expectations and how tasks fit in the overall project.

  • Works collaboratively with project team and client to define and achieve established goals.

  • Organizes written work in a manner that is clear, easy to follow, and tailored for the intended audience.
