Program Specialist 2 - Education Navigator (Corrections Education)

SALARY:$43,716 - $49,116

LOCATION:Lynnwood, Washington

DESCRIPTION:   

Edmonds College is accepting applications to fill the role of Corrections Education Navigator for the Correction Education program located at the Monroe Correctional Complex in Monroe, Washington

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Corrections Education, this position is responsible for creating pathways for incarcerated students in vocational programs, GED, or AAS-T degree programming, as well as supporting those who are seeking employment/education services upon release into the community. The Navigator will assist correctional education program incarcerated students in identifying a clear educational pathway and support the student through completion of their educational credential. Support services might include assisting students in furthering their education upon release from prison; assisting prison education program completers in job search and job referral to employment opportunities related to their training and qualifications; developing job opportunities for offenders with living wage job skills by working directly with employers who are interested in hiring former offenders.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Promote and present information on student education programs and pathways through offender orientations, Edmonds College classes, and/or in reentry workshops or events in all MCC complex areas as needed
  • Meet with students to discuss and identify clear pathways to completion in and out of incarceration including completion of college application requirements, FAFSA, and selective service requirements
  • Establish education and employment goals and plans for students anticipating release
  • Provide community program information to students 
  • Serve as member of SBCTC state-wide Navigator community
  • Perform other duties as assigned

This is a classified position reporting to the Associate Dean of Corrections Education.
