ASRC Federal Holding Company Expert Software Engineer (supporting NASA) in Moffett Field, California

ASRC Federal Mission Services, a subsidiary of ASRC Federal ASRC Federal Research and Technology Solutions (ARTS) has a contract to provide comprehensive IT services to NASA Ames Research Center located in Mountain View, CA.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform technical management and full life-cycle CMS software development (requirements, analysis, design, implementation, integration, testing, evaluation, debug, and support)

  • Establishment, configuration, and maintenance of information servers.

  • Establishment of server infrastructure to deliver Open Geospatial Consortium compliant data.

  • Enable data ingestion into CMS from NASA missions.

  • Develop tessellation techniques to address polar distortions on Lunar south and north poles.

  • Develop features such as measurements, elevation profiles and line-of-sight (LOS) analysis on the ingested data.

  • Integrate existing HORUS-denoised Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera (LROC) Narrow Angle Camera (NAC) images for specific lunar regions.

  • Create Permanently Shaded Regions (PSR) mosaics using high-signal HORUS-denoised LRO NAC images.

  • Integrate newly generated HORUS-denoised LRO NAC images into CMS data base.

  • Create hazard maps in specified regions that could aid in designing traverses into, within, and out of PSRs.

  • Create and integrate data layers into CMS using datasets from lunar orbital and surface missions.

  • Write technical and user documentation.

  • Provide insight into the changing database storage and utilization requirements for the company and offer suggestions for solutions.

  • Analyze database implementation methods and create data monitoring models

  • Develop database design and architecture documentation and maintain the integrity and security of databases

This position is offering a pay range of $86/hr - $148/hr depending on experience, seniority, geographic locations, and other factors permitted by law. Requirements:

  • BS in Computer Science, Information Science, or other relevant discipline required; an advanced degree may be substituted for three years of required experience.

  • 10 - 15 years’ experience with software architecture, development, deployment, and maintenance.

  • Advanced skills in Java, Javascript, Python, and C++ Experience with source control management, configuration management, bug tracking and other dev tools.

  • Working knowledge of GIS systems, QGIS, Git and Github

  • Knowledge and experience with databases (SQL and/or NoSQL)

  • Ability to prioritize tasks to deliver project milestones and meet project deadlines.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to communicate and work with a diverse team of researchers and software developers including NASA civil servants, ASRC personnel, and other stakeholders.

  • Must be a US Citizen to meet government contract requirements.
