Canadian Tire Chief Est & Cost Control Manager in Mobile Location Ontario [F009], Canada

What you will do

  • Establish and maintain corporate estimating policies and evaluation procedures.

  • Generate and implement new cost management and cost tracking and reporting techniques to ensure prudent expenditure of corporate capital.

  • Prepare project specific construction estimates for Real Estate Committee and Capital Expenditure approval.

  • Prepare estimates for comparison of alternate design layouts and value engineering proposals.

  • Provide up-to-date construction information and costing data to the Real Estate Development Department.

  • Close, review and evaluate tenders and prepare tender submission approval documentation.

  • Perform construction analysis, comparing actual costs to planned costs on completed projects; documenting, extrapolating and tabulating information to establish construction industry pricing trends.

  • Keep abreast of current construction market trends and practices relating to labour, materials etc. and their resulting impact on construction costs and schedules.

  • Ensure risk, contingencies, and escalation allowances are documented and updated regularly.

  • Prepare final accounts on completed projects to reconcile between estimates and actual expenditures.

  • Prepare and maintain cost files on completed projects to allow for the preparation of estimates and comparison on future projects.

  • Fulfills the role of project comptroller for CTREL facilitated corporate special projects, monitor and track overall construction budget.

  • Develop reporting tracking tools, generate cost reports, and forecast cashflow for CTREL special projects.

  • Conduct training and provide guidance to other Estimators.

  • Travel is required.

    What you bring:

  • A University degree (bachelors/masters) or equivalent in a related field, with a proven track record and formal training in all areas of estimating, quantity take-off, pricing scheduling, subtrade negotiation, tender closings, preconstruction services and post tender development procurement.

  • Designation from one or more of the following: The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, The Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors and The American Association of Cost Engineers.

  • Demonstrated experience in project development methodology.

  • Proficiency in preparing elemental and divisional concept estimates from minimal information.

  • Proficiency in and knowledge of MS Office suite, MS Project, Bluebeam, and Power BI.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong analytical ability as well as an understanding of business in order to be able to recommend new ways of using integrated reporting information.

  • Self motivation, commitment to a team spirit to achieve objectives, ability to work independently and ability to prioritize workload to meet the demanding needs of an aggressive building program.

  • Ability to deliver effective presentations to Senior Management.

  • Demonstrated ability to build teams and to recruit, motivate, develop, and retain staff.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in leadership role

  • Ability to manage competing priorities effectively in a team-oriented environment.

  • Creative and courageous, with the ability to manage in an environment of change and ambiguity to help us take bold, strategic moves in this rapidly evolving retail environment.

  • Minimum 10 years postgraduate work experience.

  • Actual construction cost consulting experience would be a definite asset.
