Are you passionate about supporting the justice system and making a direct impact in your community? We're looking for a proactive and detail-driven Court Support Specialist to join our team. In this exciting role, you'll play a key part in coordinating Shelter and Traffic Court proceedings, assisting defendants through complex court processes, and ensuring smooth operations across various programs.

** The full range for the position is $24.74 - $28.82/hour and will increase each year for longevity and cost of living adjustments.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with the Shelter Court and Traffic Court teams to coordinate hearings, perform intakes, provide status updates, including maintaining and analyzing up to date data, and helping ensure tasks are efficiently managed among team members.

  • Develop driver’s license reinstatement plans and perform check-ins to ensure progress with defendants in Traffic Court; research driver’s license policies and laws in different states.

  • Provide support to defendants in navigating the policies and procedures of the courts; contact other courts and/or jurisdictions to determine appearance policies and procedures for defendants.

  • Attend Shelter Court proceedings at off-site locations to assist with intake, managing video appearances, coordinating hearings, and participation of community providers.

  • Provide administrative support to various court programs, including the Pretrial Assistance to Support Success (PASS) Program.

  • Assist the Community Service Administrator with developing, coordinating, and implementing various court programs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of or ability to learn general criminal justice and case management practices and procedures, including managing court case files, and databases; maintaining recordkeeping; processing court orders.

  • Skill in operating office equipment, utilizing various computer software and databases, including Microsoft 365, and the ability to learn job-specific applications and equipment.

  • Skill in communicating, in person and writing, with the proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals and outside entities.

  • Ability to research, analyze, and collect data from various sources.

  • Ability to understand and interpret various procedures, policies and laws.

  • Ability to learn City and departmental policies, procedures, and practices.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive and criminal justice information.

Working Conditions:

  • Position may require a flexible work schedule, including occasional weekends, on an as needed basis.

Qualifications and Additional Application Materials

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to three (3) years of criminal justice experience or another relevant field.

  • Must have a valid Montana driver’s license with a verified acceptable driving record, or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

  • Municipal Court and/or court database software experience, preferred.
