Canadian Tire Team Lead, Carrier Planning in Mississauga, Ontario
What you’ll do
The primary responsibility of the Team Lead, Carrier Planning is to provide leadership and direction to a team of Carrier Planners. The Team Lead will assist team members in executing current business processes and in developing new processes to meet changing business requirements. The Carrier Planning team is focused 7 days a week on managing the transportation plan for shipments to and from customers nationwide, including CTR (Canadian Tire Retail) stores, vendors, distribution centres, third party hubs, and rail terminals. Working within a very fast paced and dynamic environment, the Carrier Planner will tender loads to be executed by third party carriers across Canada, as well as Canadian Tire’s own fleet, within Ontario, Quebec, and Alberta. Acting as subject matter experts, the Carrier Planner will manage key performance indicators such as cost, capacity, on time performance and carrier load forecast within the context of supporting the achievement of Transportation goals. This position also requires a candidate with strong people, business, organizational and analytical skills. The dynamic environment in which this position works requires solid knowledge and work experience in Transportation as well as Supply Chain activities.
Provide guidance to team members regarding operational and departmental objectives
Provide clear direction and prioritize work within the team
Assign tasks, provide feedback and coaching to team members on a daily basis
Create staffing schedule, ensuring fair shift rotation and adequate coverage across all days / shifts
Lead department projects and identify required resources to complete on time
Provide input and recommendations on business processes and/or technical issues
Promote and support implementation of process, procedural and technological changes
Identify process and systems improvement opportunities and provide subject matter expertise and change initiatives
Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with internal and external stakeholders
Establish and maintain good working relationship with third party carriers while ensuring desired service is provided at lowest cost
Proactively work with stakeholders to ensure carrier capacity is available to support the operational demand for the successful execution of all shipments including inbound, outbound, Dealer returns and ad-hoc requests
Maintain current knowledge of Canadian transportation acts and regulations, including transportation of dangerous goods
What you bring
Post-Secondary degree in Applied Science, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or Engineering
Minimum 3 years of cross-functional Supply Chain experience
Minimum 2 years experience in building and developing teams
Self-initiating, highly motivated individual who drives for results within a collaborative team environment
Passionate, influential leader that can build a credible roadmap, delivers results and can work cross functionally to meet CTC goals
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the proven ability to positively interact and communicate to all levels of management and staff
Strong planning and organizational skills
Ability to thrive in a collaborative team setting and be adept at making objective decisions quickly
Ability to manage changing priorities in a fast paced, challenging environment with a great deal of autonomy
Ability to work with complex and evolving systems and extensive and varied data
Strong familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS) like JDAT or Oracle TM
Advanced Microsoft Excel (e.g. Macros/VBA, Pivot Tables) and Access (e.g. Macros/VBA, Queries, Reporting) skills
Nice to have: A general understanding of the Highway Traffic Act; Transportation of Dangerous Goods
