JOB TITLE: Quality Control Assistant C

DEPARTMENT: Water Department

SALARY: $2,125.02 Bi-Weekly

HOURS: 6:30am - 3:30pm

DEFINITION:

The Quality Control Assistant works under the direct supervision of the Water Quality Supervisor. This individual is responsible for collecting water samples in the water distribution system and at the water treatment plants. The Quality Control Assistant performs water quality tests in the field and at the water treatment plants including chlorine, fluoride, phosphate, pH, iron, hardness, manganese and other tests as required. This person will assist with the collection of the monthly battery of total coliform samples, the periodic collection of samples for lead and copper testing, bacti samples for the qualification of water main and water storage tanks, and the various other water quality tests required for compliance with Federal and State Regulations. The QC Assistant will be trained in the computer operation of the water treatment plants and system.

  2. Vehicle (van, pickup or car)
  3. Telephone, cellular phone
  4. Facsimile machine (FAX)
  5. Personal computer and printer
  6. Calculator
  7. Copier

Must also be able to use safety equipment listed below as work conditions and weather conditions warrant:

  1. Hard hat
  2. Rain gear (parka and leggings)
  3. Rain boots
  4. Safety glasses
  5. Safety color vest

JOB LOCATION:

The Quality Control Assistant will perform his/her duties throughout the entire MU water distribution system and all of the MU pumping and water treatment facilities. The Quality Control Assistant will occasionally be asked to attend meetings and training seminars.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employee must be able to lift a minimum of 30 pounds and must be able to climb stairs and ladders.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Must be able to work alone or perform under the supervision of the Quality Control Technician, Water Quality Supervisor or the Water Division Manager. The ability to function in all weather conditions is required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

The WQ Assistant will collect water samples, perform lab tests in the MU water lab, will coordinate water sample delivery to our contract certified labs, and will coordinate with Federal, State and local agencies as requested by the Water Quality Supervisor or Water Division Manager. This individual will also input lab test data into the water quality data base and will assist with the preparation of mandatory compliance reports to IDEM and the USEPA.

The WQ Assistant will be required to work weekends and holidays as scheduled and will also be on an after-hours, on-call rotation.

ADDITIONAL EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Occasionally, this person may be asked to assist in other work such as preparation of special reports, budgets, studies, helping with covering the switchboard, etc. . May be requested to attend seminars and training sessions.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Must be able to work in a professional manner with vendors, employees and customers. Must have sufficient knowledge and ability to be able to perform or be trained to perform all duties and equipment listed in the job description.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must possess a High School diploma or GED
  2. Must possess a valid Indiana drivers license
  3. Must possess knowledge of Federal and State Regulations for the operation of a medium size public water facility and the ability to properly fulfill them
  4. Will attend AWWA Water Treatment Operator School with at least 70% attendance for credit
  5. Must maintain high level of efficiency in performance in job
  6. Must pass a pre-employment drug screening
  7. Must be proficient in working with Microsoft Word and Excel computer programs
  8. Must be proficient and accurate at data entry
  9. Must adhere to the City of Mishawaka drug and alcohol free policy
  10. Must be able to sign and adhere to a Confidentiality Statement
