Ameriprise Financial Underwriting Technical Manager (R24_0000002407) in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Join the RiverSource insurance organization as an Underwriting Technical Manager! In this role, you will rely on key technical strengths to act as a subject matter expert and liaison to the department for complex underwriting projects. Providing expertise in underwriting automation product & process development, as well as corresponding technology maintenance and enhancements. Responsible for leading the business in development of workflows, integration and maintenance of models and data environments, and testing new products and system enhancements. Responsibilities also include the development and implementation of testing and monitoring designed to provide oversight consistent with applicable policies and procedures. This role will provide primary support for underwriting automation to various projects and initiatives undertaken by the department, including areas of underwriting technology and ongoing risk assessment initiatives. Key Responsibilities Actively engage and provide outstanding thought leadership on department initiatives in development of workflows, and the integration and maintenance of models and data environments, including testing new system enhancements. Underwriting subject matter expert for data environments and data lake use cases. Identify compelling opportunities for improvement and competitive differentiation. Work across the organization to enhance the underwriting process and related technology and contribute expertise in process development and enhancements. Assist, coordinate, and influence business partners to ensure thorough and effective management of assigned project initiatives. Work closely with business partners, vendors, technology and project management staff to ensure objectives are met. Participate in project work, which may be technology-focused, to enhance systems and tools used in the underwriting process, including data analysis and requirement studies. Maintain current knowledge of industry practices, developments, and opportunities. Effectively manage training of underwriting staff on system enhancements and capabilities and incorporate feedback in design and risk selection. Identify and create opportunities for individual underwriters to collaborate across projects, encouraging a culture of innovation and excellence. Champion initiatives that drive innovation within the underwriting department, positioning our team as industry leaders in risk selection solutions. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience 5 - 7 years of relevant experience Strong knowledge of financial services industry and state regulatory requirements related to life and disability insurance Superior professional oral and written communication Ability to effectively manage multiple and competing priorities Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, including ability to effectively identify and resolve procedural gaps, and determine appropriate escalation paths Desire to progress the state of the art, drive innovation, and grow professionally Ability to prepare and/or present material for senior leaders, with leader support Intermediate or higher level skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Preferred Qualifications Fellow of the Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU) and/or Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) designation Experience in developing process flows/diagrams. Working knowledge of Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, AWS QuickSight, or other visualization tools Exposure to and familiarity with machine learning models Advanced designations or technical certificates
