The Senior Director for Communications and Marketing is a core member of both organization's leadership teams. The Senior Director for Communications and Marketing is responsible for the success and leadership of a high-functioning, collaborative team that manages strategic internal and external communications, outreach activities, marketing, alumni relations, and event planning. The Senior Director will work in close partnership with the senior leadership teams in the Medical School and M Physicians, and collaborate and stay aligned with University Relations, and University of Minnesota Foundation to ensure the team's work is aligned with University goals. We are seeking a strategic leader that will spend significant time developing and directing comprehensive communications and marketing plans aligned to organizational goals, advancing and enhancing our reputation, brand, and profile, and promoting the Dean's strategic priorities. This role will also be a key partner to communications and marketing leadership in M Health Fairview, and, in partnership with University Relations, will monitor and participate in advancing the brand. Duties/Responsibilities: Lead the Medical School Office of Communications & Marketing, dedicated to building the internal and external profile of the Medical School while building pride in the institution Oversee Alumni Relations work, in coordination with UMF, to increase engagement of Medical School alumni in development, advocacy and student mentorship. Develop and implement strategic, proactive public relations and media relations plans to build reputation and trust in our organizations Provide leadership and vision for strategic marketing, branding, communications, creative services. This includes planning, leading, and managing the marketing strategy to advance audience engagement, position the organization regionally and nationally, and cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with internal and external audiences Provide counsel to senior leadership and faculty, including on communications and marketing trends and media landscapes, opportunities and issues, and communications strategies and activities to advance reputation and minimize risk Develop proactive communications strategy to advance Dean and CEO priorities and leaders' thought leadership goals Collaborate with leadership on public relations, public affairs and reputation strategy Supervise and mentor the members of the communication teams across the two units to deliver high-level results on behalf of the Medical School and M Physicians Maintain strong relationships and collaboration with Fairview Health Services, University of Minnesota Foundation, University Relations, industry partners, and other community and health system partners In partnership with leadership and in consultation with University Relations, direct issues management and crisis response processes, tools, and implementation Work alongside the leaders in each of their functional areas to assess and evaluate current processes, people, and systems; identify immediate priority areas and identify gaps; partner with leaders to build out strategies and framework to meet departmental goals Oversee the management of web and social media channels and ensure alignment of all communications and marketing tools to the institutional strategy Create and utilize metrics to assess and demonstrate the impact of the communications and marketing functions Build organizational capability by identifying skills needed to effectively meeting the communication and marketing goals set by the Dean and CEO, and recruiting and developing staff in alignment with those strategic priorities Quali ications Hybrid Workplace: This job requires on campus presence at least 3 days a week 10+ years of progressively responsible Marketing and Communications leadership experience Bachelor's degree required, preferred in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, or a related field plus at least 12 years of experience. Demonstrated experience managing comprehensive strategic communications, media relations, marketing, event, and/or brand management programs to advance an organization's mission and impact Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills, and the credibility and leadership presence to present to a wide range of internal and external audiences Experience in owned, earned, and paid media channel strategies Experience in budget planning, forecasting, and developing marketing plans Demonstrated experience leading, developing, and implementing marketing and communications strategy Proven track record of building and maintaining a positive team culture that leads to innovation, high levels of engagement, and work that regularly meets or exceeds expectations.
