A candidate for this position must have extensive experience in hydrogel preparation, 3D bioprinting and mechanical testing of printed materials. In addition, the candidate must have experience in electrospinning, cell culture and cell differentiation. The candidate will be responsible for designing and running experiments independently under the guidance of Drs. Ilitch Diaz-Gutierrez and Angela Panoskaltsis-Mortari. This position will provide an opportunity to build a novel set of skills and expertise working at the interface of basic and translational science. Salary and benefits will be competitive. Job Duties Research duties (85%) Maintain and expand human cell cultures for use in 3D bioprinting experiments 3D bioprinting of esophageal constructs Preparation of hydrogels Preparation of polymer solutions for use in electrospraying Biomechanical testing of bioprinted constructs Histological and qRT-PCR analysis of bioprinted tissue Mentor and train undergraduate students in standard operating procedures Laboratory Management (5%) Maintain laboratory safety by ensuring that the lab is compliant with appropriate safety regulations and that lab specific protocols are established and followed. Ensure compliance with record keeping and safety training. Oversee the tracking and restocking of lab supplies. Perform validation exercises for all aspects of reagent and supply preparation and processing. Other maintenance and supply duties as required. Data Management (5%) Analyze, summarize, and report experimental data to Principal Investigator as well as other members of the research team as needed. Oversee meticulous record keeping of all experiments and projects. Other data management duties as required. Literature review, R&D, and additional duties (5%) Review relevant research literature to facilitate job performance. Attendance at weekly lab meetings. Collaborate on the preparation of protocols, presentations, and manuscripts. Oversee ongoing R&D operations as time allows and as assigned by Principal Investigator. Other duties as required. Interested applicants please contact Angela Panoskaltsis-Mortari at panos001@umn.edu Qualifications All required qualifications must be included in the application materials Qualifications Masters in Science in Biology, Biomedical Engineering or in an equivalent field of study and at least 2 years of laboratory experience or BS/BA and 4 years of laboratory experience. Experience in 3D bioprinting Ability to organize workflows as well as ability in collecting, processing and organizing data. Ability to work independently in a rapidly changing scientific environment and conduct experiments independently. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Analytical skills to process complex and varied scientific problems and identify solutions. Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to follow directions/protocols. Meticulous organizational and time management skills. Experience with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint or similar programs for data management and presentation creation. Preferred Qualifications Experience in 3D bioprinting and/or electrospraying/electrospinning Skills in human cell culture, handling and processing tissue samples.
