With minimal guidance, the candidate will manage lab-wide activities and help supervise day-to-day operations of research studies in the lab. We are seeking someone with knowledge of child development theory and research who can oversee daily lab operations and maintenance, advise lab study coordinators, conduct participant assessments (e.g., semi-structured parent interviews, standardized behavioral testing with children), perform quality control / quality assurance procedures on behavioral data, supervise undergraduate RAs, manage data in the lab's LORIS database, and generate scientific products (e.g., professional presentations, empirical publications). The position is for 30 hours a week. This position is based on campus. Per UMN policy, work may be done remotely when appropriate and approved by your manager. All UMN employees are expected to follow applicable public health and safety procedures. Job Responsibilities Lab operations management (25%) Assisting PIs with lab-wide coordination Communicating with study coordinators, lab trainees, and collaborators. Acting as a central contact for all lab members to connect them with lab, department, and university resources Maintaining lab-wide documentation (lab meeting minutes, lab SOP, experimental procedures, etc). Coordinating and running lab meetings with PI's assistance Onboarding new employees and volunteers Maintaining inventory and purchasing lab-wide materials, while ensuring compliance with purchasing procedures/documentation Using WordPress to maintain updated information on the lab website Coordinating annual newsletter for families who have participated in lab studies Planning and coordination of lab events Maintenance and troubleshooting of lab equipment, including video recording hardware and software and Tobii eye tracking hardware and software Supervisor to undergraduate students and junior staff members (25%) Acting as an adjunct supervisor to study coordinators to provide insight on day-to-day tasks in recruitment, scheduling, data maintenance, IRB protocol maintenance, and conducting study visits Developing a curriculum for undergraduate students participating in lab activities Coordinating the hire and work schedules of student employees Overseeing the training and onboarding of undergraduate research assistants and student employees Providing mentorship to undergraduate students conducting analysis projects Management of department recruitment resource (20%) Overseeing the daily operations of the Institute of Child Development's Participant Pool (IPP) Maintaining processes for family enrollment and communication Conducting regular training sessions for research teams who use the IPP Monitoring and approve researcher requests for information from the IPP database Building community engagement to recruit families for the IPP Maintaining the IPP website for use by families and researchers Supervising and training undergraduate students who assist with daily operations Scientific product generation (20%) Generating scientific products for publication or presentation at professional meetings Using R to conduct data analysis and generate data processing pipelines Data management (10%) Utilizing the LORIS database, including tasks such as entering data, performing queries, examining quality control metrics, and extracting data for analyses Working with the data management team to identify and prioritize da a management tasks to best serve the needs of the lab Performing SQL database queries to curate and share data with lab members and outside collaborators Qualifications Required Qualifications BA/BS plus at least 4 years of experience or advanced degree plus 2 years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal eight years. Ability to collaborate effectively with people from a variety of communities, backgrounds, and identities. Facility with computer software such in PC or Mac (i.e. Microsoft Office, Google Suite) Strong proficiency with statistics software (e.g. R, SAS) Strong written and spoken language skills Previous experience coordinating recruitment and data collection in longitudinal research studies Experience in managing and supervising undergraduate students or employees Demonstrable experience working with young children and their families Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Computer Science or related field A minimum of 4 years of experience in a laboratory/research setting Facility with computer programming software (e.g., R, Python, Matlab, SQL, etc.) Prior experience working with eye tracking data Prior experience conducting clinical / behavioral assessments with children Independent problem-solver Demonstrable leadership ability Comfortable interacting with infants, toddlers, preschoolers and their parents Demonstrated ability to be personable, flexible, and well-organized Demonstrable data management and archiving skills Knowledge of IRB regulations and best practices in human subject protection Understanding of accounting and record keeping best practices Prior experience managing web content and/or direct communications (e.g., website, newsletters) About the Department Department Overview The Institute of Child Development (ICD) at the University of Minnesota has long been a premier center for scholarship, teaching, and outreach devoted to the understanding and fostering of child development.
