Job Summary We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Histology Lab Supervisor to partner with the BLS Program Director, to lead the daily operations of our Research Histology and Digital Imaging Lab within the University of Minnesota's CTSI. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting and advancing the research objectives of the department by providing expert histological services, supervising laboratory personnel, and ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety in laboratory operations. Salary: commensurate with experience. Location: This is an onsite position, working in our Histology Research Laboratory located in Minneapolis, MN, on the East Bank campus in Jackson Hall. Key Responsibilities Laboratory Management & Supervision (50%) Oversee the daily operations of the research histology lab, ensuring efficient workflow and high-quality output. Supervise and train laboratory personnel, including histotechnologists, technicians, and assistants. Develop, implement, and monitor laboratory policies and procedures to comply with institutional and regulatory standards. Manage lab resources, purchasing, and maintenance of equipment and supplies. Collaborate closely with the BLS Director to monitor lab finances, including billing processes and budget management. Develop strategies to optimize resource allocation and reduce costs while maintaining high laboratory standards. Technical Expertise & Development (25%) Perform advanced histological procedures, including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and microscopy. Develop and optimize new techniques and protocols for histological analysis to support research projects. Collaborate with researchers to design protocols and interpret histological data. Stay abreast of advancements in histology and related fields to ensure the lab remains at the forefront of research capabilities. Research & Collaboration (15%) Participate in research activities, including data collection, analysis, and publication of findings in peer-reviewed journals. Foster collaborative relationships with faculty, researchers, and external partners to support research goals. Collaborate with Pathology to support researcher lead projects, including, tissue microarray development, IHC/IF quality control, and antibody workup. Provide expert advice and technical support for research projects involving histology. Quality Control & Safety (10%) Establish and maintain quality control measures to ensure accuracy and reliability of histological preparations. Ensure compliance with biosafety, chemical safety, and waste disposal regulations. Conduct regular audits and reviews to improve lab efficiency and safety standards. Qualifications All required qualifications must be documented on application materials. Education and Experience (Required) Baccalaureate degree or higher in Histology, Pathology, Biological Sciences, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of experience in a histology lab. Certification as a Histotechnician (HT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent. Preferred Qualifications Certification as a Histotechnician (HTL) by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent. Two (2) years experien e in a supervisory or leadership role. Expert knowledge of histological techniques and equipment. Strong leadership and team management skills. Excellent organizational, communications, and interpersonal skills. Ability to solve complex problems and make decisions based on data. Proficiency in computer applications relevant to lab management and research.
