Offer your time and talent as a tutor and be more for preschool students in dual language and Spanish immersion classrooms. As a Bilingual Preschool Literacy Tutor you ll spend your days helping children ages 3-5 to talk, read, write, sing and play in both English and Spanish in order to develop early literacy skills and get ready for Kindergarten. Embedded in a classroom, you ll work closely with a teacher to enhance daily literacy activities and help students build both skills and confidence. With great training and onsite coaching, you ll be ready to make an impact. Students make the most progress when you are there, so our tutors serve during school hours and are needed for the whole school year. We are currently recruiting for the 2019-20 school year. Tutors have the option of beginning in August 2019, September 2019, October 2019 or January 2020. This is an AmeriCorps member position with Minnesota Reading Corps. What to Expect Be a bilingual literacy support for a classroom of preschool learners spend your days helping children play rhyming games, write their names and learn letter sounds. Be the reason students are ready for Kindergarten. Be the reason struggling students build their confidence and skills. Be ready to grow by participating in on-site coaching sessions two times per month to review student progress and get feedback. Be impactful by participating in training and ongoing professional development. Be the motivation and represent Reading Corps at school-sponsored activities (e.g., family night) to help build awareness of Reading Corps and early literacy. Be an ambassador of the program by sharing your experience with the wider community. Perks as a Tutor Give your time as a tutor and you ll receive a scalable perks package based on your time commitment of 35, 25, or 18 hours per week. Perks at 35 Hours a Week: Stipend (paid every two weeks) - $445 Education Award - $4,266* Federal Student Loan Forbearance .and. Interest Repayment Individual Health Insurance (premium 100% paid) Child Care Assistance (based on family size and income) Perks at 25 Hours a Week: Stipend (paid every two weeks) - $318 Education Award - $3,047* Federal Student Loan Forbearance .and. Whether you are 18 or 85, the most important qualification is a desire to help children succeed. That said, you also need to meet the following minimum qualifications by the time you begin your service. Are dependable and have a history of good attendance Able to understand and follow instructions Are energized by young learners and want to help them discover new things. Eager to work collaboratively with the classroom teaching team.
