University of Minnesota Physicians Patient Representative (Pediatric Ear, Nose & Throat) - 1.0 FTE - in Minneapolis, Minnesota

The Patient Representative maintains a welcoming, friendly profile in the clinic and is responsible for the professional and efficient operation of both reception check-in and checkout procedures. Utilizes strong customer service skills and promotes philosophy of patient-centered care to meet the needs of all visitors/guests. Welcomes visitors, provides non-clinical information, takes messages, collects co-pays, enters and verifies health insurance information and oversees the clinic lobby/patient waiting area. Schedules patient appointments from internal and external referrals. Resolves non-clinical patient issues, provides backup and coverage as needed. Prioritizes between these functions on an ongoing basis to maximize efficiencies of clinic schedules and reduce patient waiting times. This position may be required to float to other departments at the discretion of the manager based on clinic needs. This is an AFSCME represented position. WhyUMPhysicians? Patient Representative Overview Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Assists with phones and schedules future appointments and/or procedures. Welcomes visitors, provides non-clinical information, collects co-pays, and enters/verifies health insurance information at check-in Oversees the clinic lobby and patient waiting area and ensures it is clean, orderly and inviting Arranges accommodation and/or interpreter services as need needed for the patient visits Resolves non-clinical patient customer service issues Assists with coordinating provider schedules and appointments Maximize efficiencies of clinic schedules and to reduce patient waiting times and enhance customer experience Requests/obtains/sends medical records and diagnostic test results from patient visits to other providers as requested Minimum Qualifications: Successful completion of Patient Representative training program and OJT within 5 weeks of hire. Knowledge of online scheduling and experience with EMR systems Keyboarding skills of 35 wpm. Proven experience in customer service This position is 40 hours per week, day shift scheduled between 7:15am and 5:00pm with flexibility for occasional weekend coverage. The position is atwith a primary assignment in the Lions Children's Hearing & ENT Clinic (2nd floor) and coverage in the Minnesota Lions Children's Eye Clinic (3rd floor).
